I made my dog think that raw turnip was the most exciting reward treat ever. And she fell for it!!!0

wagg, its less than £10 for a 17kg bag and our two love it mixed with either sardines/tuna in sunflower oil. The vet always comments on how healthy they are and what a perfect weight they are with no excess fat. There are no artificial cols or preservatives in so it does look a bit uninteresting when you pour it out.Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0

i feed my 2 on the BARF diet and it cost me £36 for a freezer and whatever petrol it costs to pick up the meat.
It's a raw diet and is good for their health, temperament, teeth, coat and pretty much everything else. Butchers have to pay to get rid of the leftovers so they'll either give it away or sell it very cheap. The person i got Wils off fed their dogs on chicken carcasses which cost them something like £5 for 50.
dog poo is almost a thing of the past. They take all the nutrients out of the food like they're supposed to and poo out the rest. It's also nice and crumbly rather than wet and stinky so you can sweep it up rather than pick it up0 -
My older dog gets Young at Heart, which has all the goodies for joint care in it, the younger one usually has Wagg but has Omega at the moment as local shop had no Wagg (trying to buy local
)
Both LOVE bits of raw carrot - must try them on the raw turnip!! they also love tangerine segmenst but only because I made such a yum yum fuss they were determined not to miss out. You could see them looking at each other wondering what on earth they'd been given but each determined that the other was not getting their 'tasty snack'0 -
another vote for WAGG here! My dog looks lovey and glossy and healthy on it and enjoys it. My last dog was fed Wagg too and lived to 15-16 years old so I think that is as good a recommendation as any!0

i used to (before my dog was poisoned to death) feed my dog with chicken liver/hearts mixed with potatoes/rice and some milk. i know it sounds disgusting, but my spitz just refuse to eat any dog biscuits or canned dog food.
it works out really cheap. i the stuff in a big pot and freeze them in containers. 15 containers at one go, one container for each day. and my dog loves it. it cost about 20 pence a day to feed my dog. and the stuff makes his coat shiny too.0 -
Pedigree!!! I am trying desperately to wean them off it and onto something much cheaper!!
I see a few of you feed your dogs 'human food' I though that you shouldn't do this as I thought it could harm them???
Obviously I could save a lot of money if I fed them leftovers, tuna, meat etc but I just don't dare as I am scared of making them ill!Dream of being mortgage free....

Sorry for your loss pennies
I would be devastated!
Very good suggestions and the BARF diet sounds interesting. Might be a bit time consuming though? I think I'll look into some of these after my dog finishes his 15kg bag of JW!
A small amount of human food, as far as I know, is okay for dogs, as long as this isnt their sole diet otherwise they get used to it, and as long as you dont include things like chocolate or leeks (apparently they're allergic) or too much dairy. You'll have to look at some websites/ask your vet as to what they are allowed, but I find it's a lot cheaper to feed tuna/sardines and he loves iti mainly stick with them in sunflower oil as opposed to brine or drain thoroughly if brine is necessary. I still feed him the biscuits to keep his poos firm etc and regulate digestion.

I feed mine Autarky and tinned butchers ( but the tins are going as soon as I run out of them......got 3 cases left) I used to feed Royal Canin until recently but it seems to have changed? and the autarky is £20 a bag cheaper with a really similar ingredients list. Does anybody know or have tried Autarky? Mine seem to doing well on it.......0

.
not very time consuming. I bought a seperate freezer for their food so its take food out the night before and leave it to defrost. Just takes time for me to pick it up when i need to because it's about an 80 mile round trip until i bother to find somewhere closer.0
