Good idea, I received an email from them today with the ram showing as in stock.
I noticed it because at the bottom of the email it says

Dell are reasonably cheap at the moment: £25.35 delivered for 2 x 1GB laptop memory if that's what you need:
http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=A1476453&mfgpid=1226026
and bizarrely, exactly the same part number is £23.45 if you search for it for a different laptop!

I have a question about latency...
7dayshop.com says
Total Size: 1GB
Type: DDR2 SDRAM
Form Factor: DIMM 200-pin
Memory Speed: 667Mhz (PC2-5300)
CAS Latency:555-12
Unbuffered
Non ECC
1.8v (+/- 0.1v)
£10.50 x 2 = £21
and crucial says
Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 •
CL=5
Unbuffered
NON-ECC
DDR2-667
1.8V
128Meg x 64CL — CAS (column address strobe) latency, which is the number of clock cycles it takes before data starts to flow after a command is received. Lower CL is faster. Modules with different CL can be mixed on a system, but the system will only run at the highest (slowest) CL.
£28
is this reall cl=5 and the 7dayshop cl=555? or is the crucial really 500?
which is better, does the difference in latency make much difference?
which one would you buy?
Thanks0 -
No you have not wasted your money. The fact that you ordered two sticks mean that 7 Dayshop will send you a matched pair. the memory for older PCs has got very expensive and you can pay £40 for one gig.windowsicker wrote: »Hi, I'm really worried now after what other's have said about buying only branded and making sure each unit is exactly matched
However, I went onto 7dayshop as suggested by Martin, and did a serch for DDR PC3200-the same as what Crucial suggested, right? Saw it's 1 gig at £17.99, so purhcased 2 of them: (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_11&products_id=102237)
Have I just wasted £40?
Knockers please note this is not ddr2 laptop memory, but 184 pin DIMM DDR memory for an older desktop that widowsicker needs.ac's lovechild0 -
Just wanted to say thanks to this thread I realised I could probably upgrade my PC memory myself. Ordered a stick from Crucial, upgraded this evening and my five year old Dell machine is running like a dream. Thanks for all the advice everyone. :T0
