We did that:D Borrowed a cat for a couple of days, it didnt catch anything but we havent seen them since so i think the smell alone may have put them off.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
We tried the humane trips but the mice tipped them on their side to get the sticky bun bits that was inside it!!
So we went for the killer trips - we set them with a chocolate raisen tied to the trap with fuse wire - they cant get it off so usually get caught! - Not nice but after the mess the made it had to be done caught 13 over a space of a few weeks .
We put them along the kick boards in the kitchen and the skirting boards elsewhere as that was where they tended to run. We also put a few in the attic and caught some up there too.

We had some in between floor boards but not in the actual house. we are in a terrace. OH set traps with peanut butter or choc and caught one in the outside boiler bit.
We tried a plug in deterrant and that worked for about a month then we heard scratching again. Put poision down round boiler but they ate it!
They were comin in to the inside boiler bit so he "expanding yellow foamed" the gaps round the pipes. That stopped them and we haven't had a problem since, about 2-3 months. True test wil be once it gets cold outside again. Will prob plug sonic thing back in in sept/oct to be safe.
So yes, plug, proper traps, and filling in gaps together sorted us out.0 -
my son has mice at his uni digs, used one of these http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/mouse-repeller-whole-house-p-36.html?source=googleads&gclid=CN3SxJzYx5QCFQoUQgodoiUZkw
all gone within a week no need to worry about pets and kids getting poisoned.
He has taken it to his own flat now, just in case....
there are cheaper ones available if you google it.0 -
Most times if you`ve got mice they must have a source of food available, last year we heard them in the loft and left them alone (live and let live) until it got out of control, I found out that they were living off the rugosa rose hips in the front garden. I found the best method of getting rid of them was spring traps and small squares of mars bar, they love them and there teeth pull on the caramel and spring the traps. We caught around 140 over a couple of months and now use the mars, spring trap formula at first sight or sound of a mouse. I also pull off all the rose hips when they start to ripen so there isn`t any food for them so only get the odd one now0

we had them, called out the pest control (no charge in certain curcumstances), they said to fill in any gaps with wire wool, and put down poison. If you are not entitled to have them visit for free and don't want to pay, ring them and ask them what poison they are finding effective, because we were told they keep changing what they use because mice are clever little critters.

Be careful if you have dried pet food in the house eg. rabbit/guinea pig food as it attracts them; make sure you keep in a sealed container. The best thing to put in mouse traps is chocolate or peanut butter. Don't bother with the humane traps.0

Don't waste your time with the bait boxes with the flap door.
We watched how easily the mouse got out of that one.
One used a leaf to push the flap open, that's how clever they are.
We use the proper traps and cheap peanut butter.Felines are my favourite

I have 2 killer cats... that seems to stop live mice (unless they are brought in as presents...) but the yucky dead ones of your front door step do get a little tedious...
Personally I hate poisons but that's probably because there is a chance one day one of my furries will catch a poisoned mouse and by eating it will get poisoned tooDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Bait boxes didn't work in my house. Traps baited with peanut butter worked every time. (Well, I caught 2 last winter and 1 this winter gone - I don't think there's any more!)some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0
