We live on a Farm and have 10 cats, they are always bringing in mice, dead and alive, drives me crazy, but on the up side, a live mouse in our house lasts on average no more than 2 minutes !. One thing we have noticed is that mice can get in or under the tinnest gaps, there must be a gap of literally no more than 1/4 of an inch under the door to our utilty room and I saw a mouse get under it, it was like he flattened himself out completely !. The proper house pest is the Glis Glis, now they take some getting rid of and are a protected species so you cant kill them, but they get in your loft and literally eat though the wooden framework of the house. We have loads of them in our area and even people who come on nature walks to look for them, the last guy who came looking for the famed Glis Glis was all kitted out with a caving light on his hat etc etc, I didnt have the heart to tell him that one of my cats had killed two of them earlier in the day :eek:0

It's possible to get hold of humane mouse traps. I got one in a chandler's shop - it was the same as the Rentokil one on the left.

The instructions that came with mine advised baiting it with peanut butter or ordinary butter. I found the peanut butter worked a treat. You can tell by looking at the trap if it's caught a furry friend - when you set it, it's on a tilt. When it's caught something, it goes level and the little door closes stopping 'mickey' from escaping. You then just have the task of escorting the little blighter to somewhere woody before releasing it.

Have bought one of these to try - looks a bit more effective than the £5 plug in things we bought before.
Went in to the cupboard the other day to get something and I actually touched one :eek:. After I got over the shock, we excavated, and found a bag of musilli that had been ripped asunder! Yuck. Working on gutting the whole kitchen now!In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!0 -
We had a mouse in the kitchen - I found droppings behind the microwave, and a little piece of bread crust I know I'd left on a dish the night before, had miraculously moved to the other end of the bench!
I borrowed some humane traps from a friend at work, she suggested using two traps, have them against the wall, and one facing in each direction, so no matter which way the mouse approached from, it would smell and investigate.
I baited with peanut butter.
Very next morning I came downstairs and voila, there was the mouse!
It was a field mouse so I didn't want to kill it.
I took it in the car with me that morning when I drove into town, and stopped at a road layby and let him off into a field.
He's miles from my house so won't return - I just hope he didn't have flatmates!!!

hi im unsure where to post this but ive just discoverd this morning that i have mice . i live in a two bed bungalow and am very very scared of mice can any one please help . what is the best way to make sure that i have completly got rid of them ,and how long can i expect it to take .?sorry if i sound really stupid but i feel as though my bungalow is now dirty . , please feel free to move this to the right place , many thanks .0

borrow a cat. in my experience this is most effective. best if u can borrow a local cat which wont be traumatised and thus will concentrate on menacing mice. who hopefully will pack bags and leave0
