I've trapped two this week, and covered the air brick which looks like the only possible entry. No signs for the last two nights, so I'm hoping that's it.

I would have used the poison, as it's probably more humane than the traps, but if they had a nest under our kitchen cupboards somewhere I wouldn't want them lying there and decomposing!
  • ... and i want it gone!!!

    Hello all,

just before i say anything can i please kindly request that you don't tell me any horror stories about how there are 5643 of them lodging in my house and how they are going to climb all over me when i sleep infact no comments about them even going upstairs will be great (although iknow deep down they do) because I am quite frankly rather freaking out.

Anyhow, I first saw the mouse on thursday and wasn't actully to sure what i saw. I spent the day thinking we had rats lol then my friend and i come to the conclusion that it was someones pet gerbil lol (who are we trying to kid!). I got some modern traps that catch them and i think break their backs or something but i dont want to use them as I've just seen its quite cute (and disease ridden probably). I don't think i could cope with seeing something that i killed. oh and the sound of it snapping eurgh. can you imagine the mose squeeking? eurgh eurgh eurgh.

    Option2 -poisen
omg it actually causes internal bleeing the rat man even told me that. in terms of dealing with the prob sounds the best way but its a slow and painful death.

Option 3- the squash bottle catcher which i just invented.
I've got a big 4litre robinsons bottle (the ones with a wide bottle neck opening) inside is some rabbit food and a big chocolate brazil nut. my plan is is that when it is inside that i will put the lid on and then take it on a dog walk and release it somewhere lovely.

Right now it is under the cooker its come out a few times before i thought of my invention. Its come out once since i put the bottle down and it walked the other way!!! i dont think it is going to work!!!!!!! its hole is in the front room and it is deperatley wanting to come through the dinning room to get back to where it is nesting awww. oh and thee dog is currently tethered to the sofa i think she thinks she is a cat!!!!!
One day, I AM going to be out of debt. I'm just not sure when.

Get some glue traps from your pet shop tomorrow, put them where the mouse usually runs.

It will get stuck on there and squeak a lot - so be warned! To release it you just take it far away from the house and squirt baby oil all over the mouse and trap and the glue disolves - off goes Mr Mouse!

This was the only thing that worked when I had mice - 3 traps got all 4 mice in 24 hours.
:D All I want is an opportunity to prove that money doesn't buy happiness :D

I would use the standard traps. Usually fast and effective. Glue traps are awful, and I wouldn't recommend poison as you have a dog (if it ate the mouse that had eaten the poison etc)

Any holes that you can fit a pencil through, need to be blocked up.

    No horror stories :D

I've never had a squeaker yet with traditional traps. I suppose it could happen, but it's always been a case of quick death for me.

Peanut butter works as bait. Mice I've found tend to be more active in the dark, so it may be worth turning the lights off if you want to lure it into the bottle.

edit - I didn't' realise you could do that with glue traps. A lot of people tend to leave the mouse there until it dies.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

    Hi doodlehumlucysmum,

There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas to help you get rid of your unwanted visitor so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

My cat is always bringing them in to the kitchen and we often have one beneath the oven ,cat drops it it runs under the oven and then the cat will spend hours eyes fixed on floor just waiting and hoping .
What we do is block all escape and then we move the oven after removing cat and then between us we manage to trap the mouse in a box ,husband then takes it off in the car and places it in the park hard work but some how rewarding they are very cute.:D

Glue boards are not nice and shouldn't be used by anyone apart from a trained pest controller.

Use a traditional trap, it's not cruel as it's quick.

That would be a good dog walk, the usual advice seems to be they will return unless they're released over a mile away.

Oh, a mile away, that's why we keep getting them (not much now that we have 2 cats, but before). What we did was to trap them in the humane traps (the boxes) and then release them across the road in the church gardens. When my kids were little we referred to this as "taking the mice to church"!
