bluemoon - thanks for the link but just looking at the advert made my skin crawl  I only have to catch spiders when OH is out a work as he'll do it the rest of the time thankfully, although he catches them with his hands :eek: He even caught a cranefly last night with his hands so he could get it out the house *insert puking smilie* I shudder just thinking about it yet I'm able to cope with dead mice and snails and slugs

Open a large (broadsheet) newspaper like the times or the guardian out flat. Take two or three sheets of newspaper and roll them up lengthways into a tube about an inch across. Do not sticky tape it or glue the tube.

Hold the tube at the mid point and put your other hand over one end.

Put the open end of the tube over the spider, wait a moment, and then take the tube away from the surface. You'll find that the spider has run up into the tube. Take your hand off the end. Spiders instinctively try to stay in the dark so the spider won't run out of either end now.

Take the newspaper tube outside and lay it down. As you let it go it will unroll and the spider will run away.

This method is also good if (like me) you tend to squash them when trying to catch them!

THank goodness I found this thread! We've just had a mouse, it's inside the gas fire. I was watching the TV and heard scratching and I found this bit of toast that had been dragged into the fire (not on) and it was moving!

So we've bait out and traps and plugged up any major holes with brillo pads, but I'll have to investigate outside tomorrow to see where it's getting in - or will they get in anyway?

grr... least someones ones of them are working :(

Monty (my pesky mouse) has chewed through my skirting board and BRAND NEW carpet in my bedroom and pooped all under my bed while i was asleep in it!! Thats the room with the sonic repeller thing in!!!

He has also pooped all over my sofa the night before last!! Which being a 5 seater... is a hell of an achievement!! Spotted him in my living room last night... so god knows where he is now...

Slowly finding more and more places.. and with every place im THAT much closer to poisoning/inhumane traps! :D
  • I have had my sonic things for about 2 weeks - no sign of mices so that's good but as soon as I plugged them in I could hear the beeping from one of them so had to turn that one off as it's very annoying  Then a couple of days ago the beeping from another one became audible so had to turn that off too. The other two are silent (to me) but I assume the mice can still hear them!? However as they are suppossed to be inaudible to humans how come I can hear 2 of them!!? Supposed to be guaranteed for 2 years or something so not much good if 2 out of 4 are not working as suppossed to already!

  • I think I've got a mouse in my cupboard under the sink.

I've put poison down in a plastic container and it's eaten 3 trays full!!!! There's hardly any droppings though - which I think is unusual, as last time I had one my cupboard had loads in!

They (it!!) doesn't appear to have been in any other cupboards though and there's no open food around.

I'm in the process of selling my house so will die if it runs out when I'm showing people around!!

Last night when showing someone around they asked if I'd mind them looking in the cupboards!!! Held my breath and prayed lol!

    Any ideas anyone?

  • The sonic things seem to have stopped working completely now as the mice are scampering across the kitchen floor even in the daytime :( grrrr
Not seen them for a while but last night and today they have made several appearances.
Maybe poison is the only way to go?

We had an infestation in our garage. We bought some old fashioned 'little nipper' traps and used some old chocolate spread as bait.

For several nights we were catching 2 and 3 at a time, we caught 12 in all - eek!

Also, If your house is rented from the council or a rental association, they should sort it out for you. If there are a lot of mice you do need professional help in getting rid of them

I have wondered if those things you plug in are any good?
