Get a cat - I have two and a dog and despite living next to a field full of mice I have none in my house
My neighbours however have all had them
And that includes some who are positively OCB about having a clean house...
As the only mice I see are dead mice then I have no issues with the "cruel" traps that kill them - sorry everyone... The way I see it then at least the mice don't suffer like they would with poison or even being played with by my cats before they get bored and kill them...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I've got mice again too!
I thought I'd blocked up it's entry points but evidently not! All our food is now out of the cupboards but going by what it's leaving behind, it's a determined little blighter! I've put a thin scattering of flour down so I can hopefully see where it's footprints are and hopefully trace it's entry points and pathways around my kitchen.
I won't put poison down as I think it's barbaric after learning how slow and painful death is by this method. Also, after finding a mouse clanking around the stock room with it's leg caught in one of those traps that are meant to kill them, I can't face using one of them either!
I'm trying a similar method as shown in the link but will succumb to buying a humane trap if all else fails this weekend. (plan is to release them a mile up the roads in the woods
Quick question tho' and perhaps dumb too, but I rent from a housing association. The outside wall is full of cracks that they could be entering from. Would I qualify for help in getting them sorted out with my council?0 -
We use humane traps and I don't think the mice are particularly traumatised. They have something to eat after all! As long as the trap is emptied early in the morning they seem ok, and you can't really miss them because they make scrabbling noises.0

I have 3 dogs and the mice are not afraid of them. One night we saw one run right over the dog. The dog just looked surprised and the mouse didnt seem bothered!0

Well I own, rescue and foster them, write about them for a rodent welfare magazine and a rescue centres website, spend most of my spare time researching about them, building a website about how to take better care of them and running a forum for other people who like them so I guess I kinda do too!:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
I'm afraid I used the very inhumane mouse trap
you do get humane traps. I didnt want to use poison because then there would be little corpses lying around rotting
I found they like garlic pate spread on cheese! I have heard though they like chocolate too
once you get rid of them you need to make sure they dont get back in. look for how they got in. we gradually blocked up all the gaps. We think they were getting in through gaps in the floor boards around the water pipes. once we blocked them up we havent had any more.x x x0 -
We tried humane traps without success, (bait gone, but no catchy mousie) and eventually had to resort to a normal trap (it broke my heart, I can tell you). Trouble was, the mouse was trapped in the loft without food or water, and couldn't get back out so it would have died (and decomposed) anyway. Mr newleaf was the executioner, he baited the trap with peanut butter and caught the li'l mousie within minutes. The poor thing must have been starving. My only consolation was that he promised me it was a 'clean' catch and the poor mousie didn't sufferOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0
