  • Your stake is lost with PBs. If it wasn´t, it wouldn´t be a stake.

Your stake is the value that your money loses each month that it is ínvested´.

PBs are good investments for higher rate tax payers ONLY. All other PB holders are gamblers and not investers.

    :)

Since 1991 I have been buying Premium bonds.
Over the years I have purchased £22400 and won £7700
Last year I averaged £92 per month in winnings - this year it's just £59/month.

I've also worked out that I would have made slightly less in interest, had the money been invested in a saving account, paying the same rate as the Bank of England base rate.

The prize rate/ interest rate goes up from 3.15% to 3.4% from, I believe, 1 January. In other words from the next draw, not including the 1st december one.

The prize rate for December will rise to 3.55% p.a. tax-free, which is due to the three extra £1m prizes. Although, the odds of winning a prize will remain at 24,000 to 1.

Press release: The Premium Bond prize fund rate increases from 3.15% p.a. to 3.40% p.a. tax-free* for January 2007.
