Premium Bond Winner ?

These figures are a bit rough but anyway.
I had my own premium bonds and they were doing okay but I took a lot out put it into a mortgage overpayment.
I had £1500 left in there and then the missus put in £5000. Over three years my bonds won twice (£25 each time) and hers won probably around £100 in total each year.
A few months ago I put 5k in so I'm now at £6500. In the three months they've been eligible to win I've won £25 twice.
I'm tempted to put more in but my money so far has been way more useful going into my SIPP, s&s ISA and overpayments.1 -
With the cut in prize funds and in the spirit of reckless gambling, I just cashed in a little under 10% of my Premium Bonds and used the funds to buy (whisper it) b*tcoin. Not as reckless as it sounds, as my PB holding was only £9250 in the first place.
We'll see how the returns compare in a year. Thus far my £750 "investment" has already won the equivalent of one £25 prize in less than a week
Don't flame me please, it's just for fun.1 -
Anybody won a prize off a £25 value bond before?0

Somebody won £100K from a £25 value bond this month, although their total holding was over £30K....concorde1966 said:Anybody won a prize off a £25 value bond before?3 -
I think there was a winner that had a large prize off a £7 holding which itself shows how old his bonds were, sure it was someone in CardiffMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...2 -
Seems as good a place as any to ask this question ... how long does it normally take to create an NSI Premium Bond account ? I signed up this morning and got the receipt for the opening investment pretty much straight way but, since then, I have had nothing ?0

Yes, I'm wondering how anybody can hold more than one NS&I account unless you hold them in different names, maiden name and married name, but when you open an account don't you have to quote a National Insurance number or something. So long since I opened mine I can't remember what info they require.ab56 said:Quote from VXman
"i have a friend who swears by premium bonds. She has 6 accounts maxed out and it is her only investment. She loves telling me she is winning all the time. She has never worked out what her return on her £300,000 actually is over a year."
How does friend have 6 accounts maxed out? Only allowed 1 per person?
FWIW, 2x£25 on my one maximum holding. Pleased to get something.
Very late reply to this!!!
I am not sure exactly what she has done but I believe it is in names of nieces/nephews or other family members. She works abroad and this is her way of returning money UK for future use.0 -
Not totally sure but I think the account is opened immediately. Certainly if you have an account buy additional bonds they are added immediately. Have you set up online access? Can you log on and have a look.AdamBrunt said:Seems as good a place as any to ask this question ... how long does it normally take to create an NSI Premium Bond account ? I got made redundant last month and had premium bonds before. I have £20,000 in now. Two blocks of £6,000 and one of £4,000 and all the rest are mainly £25’s.
All my wins so far have been from the blocks apart from one where I won £25 off a £100 bond and had only had it for about four months. All the bonds I buy from now will be £25’s so will be interesting to see which ones win. In the three years I have had my bonds I have won £450 which isn’t too bad.0 -
Having just done it this morning - if you are a UK resident then you don't have to supply your NI number. You are asked for your Tax Identification Number (which in the UK is you NI number) but if you enter it whilst saying you are UK resident, it says you haven't filled the form in properly.Primrose said:
