Of course the only reason newer bonds win more prizes is that there are lots more of them. I'm not sure if the current number of bonds is made public but Googling indicates there were 84.3 billion eligible bonds in December 2019, and as of November 2020 the size of the prize pool suggests that number is now about 97.5 billion, so if my sums are right then roughly one in six of all eligible Premium Bonds were bought in the past year.1 -

And for another take on the perception that new bonds seem luckier, https://nsandi-corporate.com/media-resources/premium-bonds-factsheet states:Newer Bonds seem luckier because over 95% of those currently held have been purchase since 2000.1 -

3 x £25 on 50k for me this month#39 - Save £12k in 20250

I have maximum holding And won 5 x £25 for nov. I’m not big on maths so I can say I have had 1.75% return for my bonds in the last year of having full holding, except that I still have December to go! I can expect £0 probably given the interest rates now and how well I have done so far, but I will still be disappointed cause I love winning even something!I recently bought my flat and I’m very lucky flats are so cheap here, I have a small mortgage and could have not had one if I had used some of my 50k... but I kinda didn’t want to use it cause 1) I used to be in a very high paying job, now I am average so I’m never going to be able to save that amount ever again
2) I like seeing wins on my premium bonds!Of course I know if I paid off my mortgage I’d save way more than my premium bond winnings, but really it’s reason 1). I feel it’s good for me to have a small mortgage and have money available for potential future endeavours. I’m on a low to average wage now (what is average?!). But I plan to travel for an unknown amount of time once I can!0 -
