Only £25 in last six months on 20k! Had 40k in for a while. The 20 I took out and put in 5% & 3% current accounts is making far more. I think the other 20k will be going to Santander soon! The most I ever won in a year was £ 375.0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Yet again my £100 investment failed to win the million. That must be, what, four or five consecutive months I didn't win the jackpot. I'm starting to wonder whether it's all worth it. Perhaps I could write to NS&I insisting I did win, only my winning bond was in my trouser pocket when I washed them?
On a more serious note: are Premium Bonds actually bonds? It seems to stretch the definition since they have no maturity and no regular coupon. It's an interesting semantic exercise but also relevant for portfolio allocation, for example. Do I count Premium Bonds as bonds? Cash? Other?: )0 -
Bond has to be the most Mis used term in financial services, and there's a fair degree of competition for that accolade.
Many savings products are bonds and a reasonable definition to cover most eventualities is that it is a sum of money normally locked away fro a defined period on which a return is paid but your deposit may or may not be at risk of capital loss. This would cover premium bonds as you are likely to get a very low return over longer periods but your capital is at risk to inflation.
I allocate my holding into the bond part of my portfolio, it's essentially a gilt paying a very low return but not at risk of capital loss, being a higher rate taxpayer it is arguably slightly tax efficient but the returns for the vast majority are poor.0
