In which case you make sure you check it monthly and contact them if the payment doesn't come through, it's crossed after all so cannot be cashed by anyone else.

There is an argument to invest if you are diversified and invested elsewhere and are a higher rate tax payer, rates then on average are barely worse dependent on your luck, and people like the idea of a 'win' whether this is a loss to inflation or not.

I personally have a. Holding, though it's only a few per cent of total assets. I'm currently wary of bonds at the moment and consider them to form part of the water element of my investments, along with cash and small amounts in bond and property funds.

I have the same view. For me PB is a liquid part of my portfolio compared to other investments.. For example equities are a good investment option only if you have a 5 - 10 year view of owning them.

However if I need some serious cash for whatever reason (medical expenses for example), PB's are easy to cash in, there's no penalty (which we kinda take for granted), and I can buy them back just as easily.

why not get the winning paid directly into your bank a/c?

That's such a good - and obvious- idea, I'm kicking myself that I hadn't thought of it myself. Thanks, Clapton. It means I don't have to lose a month's worth of draw entry cashing bonds in from my holding and buying more to add to my husband's holding :T

Every month my account doesn't show the current month until much later than everyone else.

My log in account is still only showing December.
