Premium Bond Winner ?

With regards to the argument about pbs being or not being a good investment, as has been said this is a money saving site and most people posting on here know that, wouldn't be on a forum like this if not interested in what their money is doing and have read the bit from Martin himself on PBs so do we really have to have the argument everytime the winners are announced. I think t is enough to say that you think they are not a good investment once jonbvn and then leave us to it - you have done your bit to advise us and we are grateful for that.0

mayb , i agree the argument is wearing thin, but its only natural it will be discussed after each draw.
some will be happy others frustrated, then the reverse,
but one thing to remember, for me its the hope that ill get a really big win and quit my day job, im 10 years away from that at the moment.
it also suprises me sometimes that those who argue for isa's and are against premium bonds have a fraction in savings as some here, i like others have the full 30k invested, id be very suprised indeed if max holders only had 30k and it were all invested in pb's.0 -

Totally agree. Husband and I both have 30k and see this as a bit of 'fun'. Not worried about maybe missing out on £1k over a year, or indeed gaining £1k. Nobody knows which way the winnings pendulum will swing. We also have money in other places and have paid off our mortgage, so doing PB's for a little while is OK with us.Your = belongs to you

My hubby and I have just invested in Premium bonds due to enter the April 08 draw.
Hubby holding: 30K
Me: 29,915K (have some old ones from years back I didn't want to cash in!) I won £50 on these sometime in the 80's as a wee lass!
We are maxed out on isa's and he is a higher rate tax payer, so for us it's a safe short term investment/gamble and a bit of fun.
We plan to leave them in there for 12-18 months.
Will keep you posted how we do.
:j
Ok for our first draw we got:
Me: 1 x£50
Hubby: 1x£100 1x£50 1x£50 1x£50
Pretty happy with that! :beer:0 -
That's what its all about isn't it Natz - well done!!:j
I have very little in savings, but when we had to cash in an endowment policy which was due to pay out less than we paid in, we felt it could do no worse in PBs, where we had a chance of winning big time, and it wouldn't be actually shrinking as well as losing value.
We have the equivalent of one year's ISA savings for one of us. Anything else we save is in ISA's. So we have lost interest only on one year's cash ISA and feel it is worth the risk to have a chance of early retirement. So far in three years the return has been the equivalent of any ISA investment so nothing lost yet either. Any winnings go into an ISA - so in theory we are making as much if not more in this way.0 -

I would hope most of the posters on here would not be stupid enough to put all their savings in PB's. However, PB's are by far the most used savings vehicle. This means that it is extremely likely that there a lots of people who use only PB's to save.In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

So 6 months from now someone comes onto the MSE forum sees the 10,000 posts where people have posted their PB winnings and concludes that they must be a great product?
BTW, I never offer any financial advice, since I am not authorised to do so!In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Hey! Just checked! My husband and I have each won £50 this month! Yay!!
This is £350 since June 2005 on a total of £3000 investment.
And we could still win the big one.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Know what you are saying jonbvn but would they have found this site and be posting on here do you think? They would obviously be looking at the main site and could get information about the best place to put there money on there. It is more likely that those posting are taking an active interest in their money issues and have made an informed choice. There are always people on here posting their winnings - it is called Premimum Bond Winner? - and there are some who post that they have decided to take their money out. Either way they are on a moneysaving site and know why they are doing it.
I just feel it is not necessary for you or any of the others to tell us that we are wrong or stupid to be doing this. However, if you feel it better for you to continue each month do feel free - it is just a thought.0 -
im interested in winning premium bond holders , or not as the case may be , please post your winnings and holding as well as length of time held , i have a theory that newer bonds win more prizes , id prefer not to make this a discussion area of that arguement but i would be interested in your winnings
just a bit of background on me ... im fully invested elsewhere so bonds are another way of trying to be tax free ... im buying £1,000 per month on average and ive only just started this time around , although i have some million year old bonds my grandparents once bought me
current holding £5,150
winnings for august ..one prize of £100
held since .. may 2005
I held £1000 worth of premium bonds for two years during 2005-2007 and didn't win a dicky bird0
