He won a £500 at some point last year too. He's way luckier than me.

Didn't he win £100,000 a couple of years ago? I guess that makes him luckier than any of us here :)

    I've had £1600 worth for 9 years and £200 for 33years,
    Never won a penny.
Cashing them in this week. Will probably leave £100 in there.

    Yep.

I suppose I was hoping it would rub off on me but no such luck.

The thing is you never know when Lady Luck will chose you - that's why I hang in there with my PBs. There may be more chances on other bets but this one at least hasn't actually cost you anything to take part. I do know it is very possibly losing compared to putting your money in the latest high interest account, but if I ever win big that will kick them into touch and if I don't well it served its purpose for me anyway.

Yes it does cost you something to take part - the loss of interest you would have got in a high interest account. With a 30k holding that equates to 1,800 per year, or 150 per month.

Of course, if you win big then it more than outweighs any interest. However, that isn't saving - that's gambling!
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Thanks Jonbovn but I don't have a £30,000 holding just £3500 and I can't be bothered to do the maths on that, because it equates to 3500 £1 lottery tickets, which equates to about 10 years of lottery tickets and not winning a penny. On the other hand I have had a fair return from PB's most years so far and feel it is worth the gamble as I have said before.;)

I am aware it is gambling but it is without the loss of your stake, which needs to be taken into account when looking at these things. I do not gamble on anything else and in any other way. So in the long run I think I could have lost £3500 in wasted lottery tickets. Which, of course, other savers may spend in that period of time outside of their savings. Either way if I win big it all becomes immaterial as you say. So here's to that possibility

Quite worrying that there dosent seem to be many big winners (over 5k) given the amount of people with max holdings.
i have £25k in p.bonds built up over 2-3 yrs, and have never won more than £200 in a month.
normally get between £50 & £200, and about 1 in 5 draws get nothing.
as long as i keep getting about 5% return i'll keep the money in. and i do enjoy checking the numbers every month, even though it normally ends in dissapointment.
