2 x £50 for me this month. This brings the year's total to £700 (on 20k) - i.e. 3.5%. better than last year - £450 total but not so good as 05 - £900. I wouldn't keep them if I didn't have 'proper' savings elsewhere and certainly wouldn't recommend them - but, still, I do live in hope.

Husband has had maximum holding since March, he has won nearly every month and a total of £800. He will see how he fares after 1 year, then decide whether to put into a savings account.

I bought £100 worth each for my kids on the basis they would share if either of them won. They won £100 last month and were delighted. I don't think it is very MSE but it is good to live in hope and great fun when you win !!!

Maybe NS&I have had a huge influx of funds after the banking panics lately and as a result there's more bondholders so less chance for all?

Sorry, but an iflux of money into PB's does NOT mean less chance of winning. The reason being is that the prize fund is taken as a percentage of the total amount held in PB's. I.e. It is not fixed like say buying raffle tickets.

Of course, you chances of winning are still quite poor.

  • I've got £4,000 worth and have won 3 x £50 in about 20 years! :(

How exactly are the winning numbers chosen?

Quite true - something cannot be both evenly spread and truly random. If it's evenly spread it's not random. The fact that it is not evenly spread is one (and only one) test of randomness

See, this is what I mean. If you have £4000 in PBs you should be winning once a year at least approx. I think the mathematicians will agree. If it were me, I'd sell them and add £1K and buy a £5K block if you want the 'thrill' of the possible win each month. Otherwise, NS&I savings or Sainsbury Bank or Bank Of Scotland Reward Savings account. Wishing you better luck soon!

If you saved 4k over 20yrs at a rate of 5%, it would now be worth more than 10k:eek:

This really proves how poor a product PB's really are.
