Agree with the above: It has been known that if a large group of diners are in 'High spirits', then a few more bits and pieces are added to the bill, in the hope they will not notice.
A group of us had this done to us in an indian restaurant in Sunderland. the bill had a duplicate of our drinks bill, charged for 8 portions of rice and 8 naans (there was 8 of us, but shared 4 rice and 4 naans together). After I queried this, they said it had been a mistake.....YEAH RIGHT!
They had also added 10% to the total bill themselves (sneakily, without noting it down as gratuity at all), and even asked us if we wanted to give a service charge!
Concequently I complained, got the bill recalculated and managed to get the 10% service charge and the price of the drinks scrapped. We informed the manager we would be advising all of our friends never to walk through his door ever again.
My advice? Tell the local paper. Word will get round quickly that they are a bunch of ripp-off merchants!!Profit=sanity
Turnover=vanity
Greed=inhumanity:dance:0 -
You have to keep your wits about you, more so if your in a large group as these places seem to see you as fair game0

Tip to avoid being overcharged on number of bottles of wine consumed by large party - tell all concerned that when a bottle's finished you'll put it under the table. When bill comes, compare with your empty bottles. (Probably a good idea to check there are none under there before you start, though!) The restaurant staff shouldn't have a problem with this - I've seen it happen on a couple of occasions.0
