Sainsburys Staff feeding frenzy

I was shopping in Sainsburys yesterday and was in a queue waiting to be served at the fresh fish counter, as I waited I saw most of the fish was being reduced by over 50% which seemed to be perfect timing, unfortunately as this happened other Sainsburys staff started appearing behind the counter speaking to the supervisor and ordering their fish.
The two women serving customers then stopped serving and started removing the fish on sale and putting it at the back of the counter where another woman then bagged it and gave it to the staff ? I couldnt beleive it, complete disinterest in customers until the feeding frenzy of staff was sorted. needless to say all the bargains had gone and a very poor experience of Sainsbury staff.

My OH works at Sainsburys I could be wrong but its the stores policy that staff cant do there shopping at meal breaks or Tea breaks and have food stored behind counters for staff this is because it has been open to abuse and also some staff have stolen things in the past, I am sure this is the same in other stores0

happens in all shops. staff always get first pick.
topshop do store card sales before open to general public.0 -
Perk of the job and i dont blame them0

No, I don't blame then either... but when I worked at Tesco you weren't allowed to save / buy anything - you had to clock out, leave the store and then come back in again to do your shopping!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

Not really sure what the problem is ... just becuase they work there are you saying they shoud not be allowed to buy reduced price stuff.
A little unfair as most shop staff are on what is classed as a low wage which they work very hard for.
Why shouldn't they be entitled to buy cut price stuff just like anyone else ?0 -

Stores normally have this kind of policy in place to stop staff abusing the system. For example hiding the stuff that is going out of date then making big reductions for themselves etc
I know our local supermarket does not allow thier staff to buy stuff on thier shift either they have to wait and shop like any other customer. It seems unfair that they can't do it a designated break though.
HappyChappy. I would consider writing to customer services. It's one thing for staff to buy reduced food, but to effectivly get it by queue jumping is a bit cheeky. I'm sure management would have kittens if they knew that was hapening.0 -

Not really sure what the problem is ? .....well let me enlighten you, I had been queuing as were about 6 others, when the hoarde appeared from around the back of the counter and started ordering their fish, the queue stopped being served whilst the staff picked what they wanted and had it bagged and left at the back ? After the staff finished because everything reduced had gone, it was back to ...."how can I help you ?" Possibly see what the problem is now
Why shouldnt staff be entitled to buy cut price stuff just like everyone else ?
Totally agree that they can do !! Just join the f#'king queue, not everyone thinks like a german and queue jumps, but that and sunbeds is another topic
Hopefully one can now see what the problem is.0 -

Ok .. I see where you're coming from kind of BUT how did the staff know you were going to order the cut price stuff.
Are you saying all six people were going to order the cheap stuff ... and the staff jumped the queue.maybe there had been a queue all day and this was the dsignated time to serve staff.
Maybe they only had limited break time ? its not really a big deal anyway why not let them have the cheap fish with good grace.0 -
Did that many staff really want cheap fish?
I get what you are saying though, they should have queued..BSC Member 155

I agree that if the staff want to avail themselves of the offers, then they should join the queue along with everyone else.
I don't agree that there should be a designated time to serve the staff while they are other "proper" customers waiting. What's wrong with them doing their shopping once they've clocked off or at another time when they aren't on shift?
It's just rude.0
