  • Thank you Intasun32. Your post was very helpful and I have followed the course of action you recommended. And thanks to all the other users who have taken the time to post in this forum- hopefully we can help stop this company before they start attempting to con people out of their hard-earned money.

    Short Code Success
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif, Impact]For Service Providers, Mobile Operators have developed and implemented a single cross network web site which facilitates the process of short code reservation whilst at the same time providing clarification as to the ownership of short codes. Short-codes.com www.short-codes.com has been created to help Service Providers keep track of their short codes, provides a register of available short codes and has an automatic facility to reserve or un-reserve short codes and register new users. Consumer Protection

Launched in July 2004, STOP provides a simplified and common approach for consumers wishing to un-subscribe from premium rate SMS subscription services. All Serivce Providers offering subscription services on a single short code via premium rate SMS or services sharing a short code with other services are now required to implement the keywords STOP and STOP ALL (the latter used for services on shared short codes) to allow subscribers to opt out immediately, quickly and simply upon request. Providing a common approach to opt out of services has increased confidence in the capability of subscribers to control their own spending on such services, to which they have previously signed up.In August 2005, STOP command was extended to allow Service Providers to provide a facility for consumers to cease further marketing messages negating the need to provide telephone or surface mail contact details in the limited space of an SMSIn response to public concern, at the beginning of 2005, Mobile Operators issued a set of guidelines for advertising and operation of Subscription Services and, as part of a further drive towards best practice, a ‘Yellow/Red Card System’ has been launched to ensure compliance to these guidelines. On receipt of a yellow card, an Service Provider must amend their service offering to fully comply with the guidelines, a red card requires them to suspend the service with immediate effect. Since implementation of the new system in February 2005, consumer complaints have greatly reduced.

O2 lease the short code to a service provider.
The service provider can lease it on for use to a number of different service/content providers.
Every body pleads ignorance and innocence. It doesn't help that the mobile operators can take up to 50% of the revenue.

I would like to clear up the thread above.
Yes I own Text 4 Prizes Ltd, and we do run a competition that properly conforms to Text competition guidelines.
The messages you have recieved are in no way associated with my company. The number in question is 81456 we rent from http://ws.textanywhere.net/web/Home/ and is a number which is used by lots of their clients. The only shortcode we have with this company is Aston as you will see from the info above, this text comes from Live.
This is a joke, maybe if you did some proper research this thread has already been removed from 3g forums because it is completely inaccurate.

This number scam has nothing to do with me and I have had my Easter ruined by people that want to ring me up and threaten me. A simple call to Text Anywhere will prove that this has nothing to do with me, but I am sure that wont be as interesting for you and you wont all be posting apologies will you.

Why do you want the thread removed?

It is serious enough for 3 to have a warning announcement that all their customers ringing in via their handsets have to listen to before being given the usual menu of departments to press 1, 2 or 3 etc for.

You cannot blame anyone here for ruining your Easter - your number shouldn't be so easy for the "stupid pricks" (your language, not mine) to find.

(Now that they know how upset you get, no doubt those same people will be calling you some more to see you steaming!)

My number was on a domain Whois, I run a reputable business I dont need to hide anything.

I want the thread removing because it is libelous, it has absolutely nothing to do with my company whatsoever or do you think that peoples names and reputations should be tarnished because of mis-information.

Some of us would like your post removing because the language is unsuitable!

But the thread is useful because this site is for moneysavers - anyone responding to the scam text will lose their money!

You really don't want the thread removing do you? (It's just your details in one of the posts you want removing isn't it?) And from whom do you want an apology?

There is an opportunity for you to report posts you don't like - see the top of the page.

I am fine with the thread I just object to my personal details being left on here when it has nothing to do with me. I would never want anyone to lose money through a scam like this and I will remove the bad language from my previous posts, as you can imagine this has not been a great weekend, being publically accused of ripping people of and having threatening phone calls when I have done nothing at all wrong.

This is another company using the number 81456, hopefully some off you will now believe this has absolutely nothing to do with me.
