I guess that most new people on the website will get a friend to post a job in your local area for a small amount so the fee rated charge is low. They then "Accept" the job and get their friend to post good feed back...0

How did you lose thousands?0

Well i've just pre-registered on a new website and it looks ok. So far my experiences as a trade on these type of sites have been mediocre as they force you to pay a monthly or quartetrly fee ON TOP of paying for the job itself. This one only charges you for the contact details. They seem pretty genuine and are certainly open to suggestions - I've already been chatting to them on their live help even at 1am (well I had been to the pub!).
I think that the web is a good way to get new customers - and find a quality trade you can trust, its just finding the right site.

try youapprove much more friendly than these guys and only £43 per year fee, you get feedback from your customers and prospective customers can also find you on this site and judge you by your feedback and reccommendations very easy and simple, i'm on it already.0

Is the most annoying thing ever0 -
I have used rated people in the past as both a tradesman and as a customer and to be honest i think it's a scam - I paid over £120 before I have one solid lead as a tradesmen and that was for a £40 job! and as a customer the service has been even worse - I've also not been able to post negative feedback. On the other hand, i joined safetrade just over a year ago - (they have a website you can find if you put their name into google) and I've had a brilliant experience with them - they actually did call my references when i applied and even come out to check my work from time to time - also customers dont have to register jobs and you dont pay for any leads- customers just call you directly so you can weed out the time wasters - it's much better than rated people0

I think those of you who are un happy with rated people have got the wrong idea.
Traders pay for leads and compete with other people who paid for them for the work. So you may not win the job as per any other lead you may get. If you buy 10 leads and don't sell any I suggest you have a look at you sales patter, product, service or price.
I spent about £4000 lst year on advertising for about 4 leads per week on average - so those leads cost me about £20 each. Most leads on rated people cost £10. So I could buy double the amount of leads if I was stupid. But instead I'm spending less on my core marketing and spending the left overs on rated people. It's good for me.
As a customer you pay nothing for the service and 5 trades people contact you. You save on the leg work. If you just assume they are good because they are affiliated to something you are stupid. NO MATTER what organisation a company is joined to does NOT guarentee they are good. You have to vet them yourself and decided by the way they present themselvres and what they have to offer whether or not they are up to the task. And if you always just go for the cheapest quote you pretty much have yourself to blame.
Anyway slagging off a company for your own short falls is not fair. But on the origonal post I do agree postings should be able to be updated - but the origional one must say also and the tadesperson able to respond. I beleive Check a Trade is only organisation that will is genuinly checking people. They won't post reviews below five but if get more the 3 they remove you from the site.0 -
We have just used Rated People sucessfully to rewire my MIL's house. We put details of the job on their website and within a few minutes we had 3 trades people contact us. We asked them all to come round to quote and chose the one we thought was most professional. We checked out his accreditations and asked for copies of his insurance certificate. He has just completed the job and has done a good professional job.
We have also used Check a Trade sucessfully in the past, but the only problem with Check a Trade is that I think they only cover certain areas such as the South of England.0 -
When a tradesman is (in effect) paying to be on a web site, there will always be a vested interest. It is not in Rated People's interest to post bad reviews, or change ratings if a consumer wishes to make them more negative. The same applies to similar sites. Word of mouth is the best way to get a workmen. If I were to use a website I would still want to see references, certificates etc.0

Hi there,
I am a tradesman that used rated people when it got quiet last January, do you realise that trades have to pay £20 just to quote on the jobs!! there is no vetting of trades and you could end up with a compleate novice who will piut in a ridiculously low quote to get the job knowing he will get his £20 back out for it!!
If you want a proper trade site go to trustatader.com. It takes trades 3 months to join, all reviews are checked and checked again and you are almost certain to get a good trade as they limit the amount of trades for each area.
