they are a big scam, you have to haggle with customers, you are not guaranteed a return call never mind a job from any customers.
some customers dont answer you,i rang one job when it alerted me,so i rang the customer and there was a plumber already there doing job?.
rated people said i could not have refund and that was it.
i went to quote job at 6.30 pm and customer was not there and did not answer phone.
this site is for rated to make money and that is it,no more no less and they are making it out of honest workers like us.
we should put a petition together to close them down.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::(e mail me at any time and we will get it on facebook and every social site we can.
it is about time rouge web sites were on television not just traders...
the same happed to me today paid for lead and rang customer and was told job was being done tommorow didnt get the chance to quote they should be forced to allow all winners to put a price in for the job not first come first served if he can get there straight away they havnt got a lot of work on so how good are they a £200 job is c--p as by the time you pay the £10 + fuel and time to quote then materials there is not a lot left out of the £ 200 for profit(wages)0 -
My garage is joined to my neighbour's and the roof needs re-felting. I posted a job on Rated People on Sunday morning to get quotes for comparison to see whether the price my neighbour had given me was reasonable. At first I was really pleased with the site and a roofer came and gave us a quote at 1pm the same day. I then got another call and got a similar quote over the phone from them.
I went back onto Rated People's site to withdraw the job to save any more tradesmen contacting me and that's where the problem lies. It's practically impossible to withdraw a job, the FAQs and help pages tell you how to withdraw but the buttons you need to press just don't exist!
I've spent hours trying to remove my job and have emailed the company twice. I feel pretty bad when tradesmen are still contacting me, wasting their money chasing a job that no longer exists. It says on the site that they endeavour to reply to emails within three days - still giving plenty of time for as many tradesmen as possible to pay the fee to get my number for me to tell them it's a dead lead. I tried to remove my phone number from the site but that's impossible too.
So I'd like to apologise to the roofers who've called me, I wish I'd never put my job on Rated People and I'm sorry your fees have been wasted.0 -
Thanks to you all for your replies & comments after my inquiry last week asking fellow tradesmen to spare some time & give their feedback, it's much appreciated..!
The problem at the moment is money is so tight i'm still not sure if i can warrent advertising. Granted it gives me the chance to quote for jobs & the initial lead would be added to the price so i wouldn't dip out there but it's the stories about dodgy non existant leads, leads that are not being removed once three tradesmen have bought them & the such likes that are concerning me..!
Ok they are out to make money but surely if this guy put this idea together after he was ripped off by a builder then he's no better if his company are ripping off clients, both those who advertise the work & more importantly from my side, the tradesmen looking to tender..!
I am just as confused as my initial post on the subject..!

As I said previously, we used Rated People successfully for re-wiring my MIL's house. However, when we used them, I didn't realise that the traders had to pay to quote even if they didn't get the job. Now I know that, I, like you, feel bad about using the site again. We recently had another job and decided to use Check A Trade for that reason.0 -
I had an excellent experience with Ratedpeople. Have always struggled to find tradespeople, especially reliable tradespeople who are prepared to work for decent rates. After posting my job I quick replies from tradesman. Accepted one who did a fantastic job, was reliable and did not rip me off with an exorbitantly high price. Very good experience would use Rated People again.0

can i just make a suggestion for any tradesmen posting, if you haven't already, please visit UKBusinessForums.co.uk where you'll get more feedback from people/businesses that have used this type of recommendation site. i think it might be worthwhile to get a business perspective on it aswell as from the end users. (i hate to cast doubt on this thread & i'm sure it's been mentioned already, but all these posts from new members saying how great this service is, just doesn't add up! they've never posted before, or again, & feel the need to come in here & praise this service? ok, some might be genuine like 'liamthebuilder' where he's provided extra info, but i'd be very wary of others).
i have no links with UK business forums, i'm a business owner & have found it a very useful site. plenty of info about getting yourself a website, advertising & marketing.0 -
Thanks for the advice & the forum to check things out, Abbiecadabra, i will defo look into that..!
I have today though already joined ratedpeople & have had 3 leads sent to me, the last of which i was interested in but had already been removed from the board as three tradesmen had already bought it..!
I shall give it my best shot & report back in a month or so to let other forum users see my feedback.

I've just set up on my own in property maintenance/hard landscaping. Registered with RP,used them in the past and not done too badly out of it, but a tad annoyed this time. Bought two leads from them, one was purely after a quote with no intention of having the work done, the other came with a disconnected phone number, no address, no direct email. That cost me £35+ VAT.
I have complained to RP, they say that they can't do anything until two weeks have passed (?). They will then investigate and, assuming they get the same response I have, will CREDIT me one lead. NOT a reimbursement, just a credit. I do a lot of stone walling, this job was worth between £15-30K...not many walls in that price range, it's usually a couple of grand max...or £15 give or take to RP. As I was the third and final purchaser of this lead, there are two other lads out there in the same boat. RP make £105 and no-one gets any work out of it.
Surely it is not unreasonable to assume that RP could, given the rates they charge, ring the customer just to verify the details are correct?
Or is it?
Either way, I want my £41.12 back in full, I may then purchase other leads from RP. The concept is great, but it needs to be done right so that everyone gains from it. I get the work, the customer gets a good job and rates accordingly, RP make money, I buy more leads, etc., etc.
Everybody wins.0 -

Yes I agree!! I joined Rated People about 2.5 months ago. I have spent approx £250 buying leads and only received one project thus far. 3 of the leads I bought just never bothered to call me back or reply to emails or txt. When you buy a lead they release the customers details for you to contact the customer. As far as I am concerned, thats when they feel their job is done. When you report the fact you were unable to contact a customer, because they origionally released the customers details to you, they decline your refund request. Is that customer service for us tradesmen who are honest trying to find business like us??? From £10 - £35 per lead the price is disgusting! As soon as my 3 month membership is up for renewel, I'm out!!:mad::mad::mad:0 -
Rated People is pretty good and I've had some good jobs off it. I've been on RP since Christmas time and it's really kept me in work in these hard times. However some of the things people go on there to get a quote for are to be honest POINTLESS AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. For example...I'm a roofer,I have to pay up to £12-£14 a lead in some circumstances. Maybe a bit lower if a small job. Somepeople go on there for a quote for a slipped roof tile!!!!! or guttering blocked and over flowing!!! Or flat roof needs a repair, when called they say they only want to spend maximum of £30!!!! Come on!! WORTH IT?!!
To be honest a roofer out the back of the free paper or yellow pages would suffice for some jobs.0
