Spot on Terrified77!
Everyone has their own, sometimes very personal, reasons for being in this situation but the fact that they've come here looking for advice, help, reasurance etc shows that they want to get it sorted out and they should be supported not judged!
I know I wouldn't have got this far without the very helpful people on this website!
Also the person who posted the comment obviously hadnt bothered to read T77 first post which said regarding her husband leaving..
I've already wasted to much time on the idiot who posted the comment but as i've already said who does it help that type of comment!!!
You know you will get good support here T77 so please dont listent to idiots etc...we will be impartial and supportive as much as we can.

I am always in two minds about trolls like that. Normally I would swear loudly and throw something at them, but for some really really weird reason today, I am in a forgiving mood. (!!!!!!!!! ME???)
They are entitled to their own opinion. And I suppose that as this is a public forum they are allowed to air that opinion. But instead of getting cross, we should perhaps feel sorry for the [strike]cretin[/strike], er, person.
Obviously, they are so blinkered in the fact that categorising every bankrupt into those who deliberately overspend due to greed and have no intention of paying it back, makes them feel better about their own choices in their own [strike]pathetic and miserable existance [/strike], sorry I meant their life.
These sort of comments bounce off me these days, as I can assure you there is not one single person out there who has, or even could, judge me as harshly as I have judged myself over the matter.0 -
Thanks for posting Ampersand - both times
I have to agree though Terrified, you are better off making the call now. You will be advised on what to do and how to prepare everything you need to look at, but most importantly you'll have broken that first barrier. I'm sure it took alot of courage to even post annonomously on this board in the first place. It's not much different with the phone call.
Nobody is going to shout and scream at you down the phone when you are looking for help. If you aren't comfortable or start to panic - hang up (politley) and try later. You may be putting more pressure on yourself by not talking than you may think there will be once you start.
Hope you can do this.
Good luck (((((Hugs)))))

Back to the matter in hand: When I phone the debt helplines, is that going to start the ball rolling? I mean, if they advise bankruptcy, will they then demand that I start proceedings there and then? Only, even if I'm ready to talk to someone (which today is not going to happen, sorry), I'm not ready to go trawling through forms and into the Courts. I'm really really sorry, but I'm just not strong enough right now.0 -
No. The phone calls are just advice. Plain and simple.0

make that 'phonecall now.
JUST RING, NOW, PLEASE!
Are you Bob Geldoff?
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -

Hi T77,
With CCCS you have to make appointment. I called last week & had to wait few days. Once you have picked up the phone (for me that was a mental hurdle in itself) they then book a convenient time. This will give you breathing space to start getting stuff together .
I recvd the papers this week & have opened then today. I feel much more empowered to call them again as I now have `informed` questions to ask...instead of last week when I was a total wreck.
Hope this makes sense...I`m busy trying to Ebay whilst looking at peoples comments!! multi-tasking!!!

I wonder, mps, whether there are any statistics that actually support the implication of your statement that debt is brought about by 'sheer greed and stupidity.
Perhaps you would like to see 'Newgate' re-opened?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hello again Terrified - no, not Bob Geldof, but just concerned.
This last sentence from GeorgeUK is spot on:
You may be putting more pressure on yourself by not talking than you may think there will be once you start.
Hope you can do this.
Good luck (((((Hugs)))))
George
And I'm definitely leaving those hugs on for a repeat:D .
I've just now seen Angel's sensible post, too.
My reason for pressing on this is to give you a sense of relief BEFORE the weekend, to have control.
Don't pre-empt the work of those qualified to help you.
They will know, better than you at this stage, how to proceed when you take your folder in.
My aim is for you to feel a relief over the weekend that has not been yours for a long time.
Further, because you will have achieved this by an ACTUAL STEP, as opposed to the very welcome VIRTUAL ones you are making here, you will feel buoyed by the knowledge of something concrete done, a diary date FIXED for the next step and your first meeting with the person who will be your lamplighter through the tunnel to clear daylight.
