This has no impact on a banks share price, all banks have been oversold....watch the space...there is money to be made in the banking sector....just remember who told you in a few months time. Personally just brought shares on Wednesday with HBOS , Barclays and Lloyds TSB. They are making millions and millions.

If this is the case then why did the banks bosses have a meeting with the Bank of England, and then a statement made that 11 billion would be made available for banks..;)

As I said watch this space, Amercian banks are not lending to each other and this has come over to the UK. I expect the Bank of England will end up lending a lot more to be honest. As for HBOS it has the biggest amount of money in savings accounts in the UK by miles and is the complete opposite of Northern Rock. Its the financial system that is the problem not just banks, anyway I know what I know so am more than happy with my investment and have already seen a tidy profit in just a couple of days. I have just seen an article saying banks are so oversold, so even happier. I expect it will be a rocky road but nothing comes easy.

But you still haven't answered the question,if the banks have made millions and millions then why would they possibly have the need to turn to the B of E , and what if they lose the test case, is the Tax Payer also expected to foot the bill for that as well

Because tax payers need mortgages, and banks are not lending to each other due to the USA. As for the test case, if they lose I imagine thats the end of free banking and it will be more like Europe and USA where you pay for everything i.e. each direct debit, withdrawal etc. The banks generate so much corporation tax it saves the tax payers paying higher income tax. This may well take numerous months to get all sorted but personally agree with the financial writers who are saying these shares are oversold.

So why should my tax money bail the Banks out out in the first place, they ain't done me no favours, and as you say if they lose the test case they are going to bite me in the butt even more with charges for everything.wow really makes me happy to pay tax
as for you quoting the USA is to blame for the insecurity in this country, does this mean that in effect the USA control us and that we aint got the brains to make our own decisions in life.. so sad:o

I agree its sad but the USA is the main player in the world whether we like it or not. I also agree I don't like bailing out Northern Rock but at the end of the day I have been able to get a nice house thanks to the banks (by giving me a mortgage), they pay interest on my savings and they have stopped me paying more income tax due to the tax on their profits keeping 2-3pence off income tax (the Government would get their money somehow!). Personally I hope they win the test case, as I try to manage my finances without going overdrawn and incurring charges.

My dad always said only spend what you have don't get into debt, unless its in bricks and mortar. It did him no harm and has served me well for over 40 years.

well many thanks for your views, personally i believe that your profits on your shares have been paid by me, the reasoning behind this is that without the backing of the tax payer via the B of E shares would drop and drop quickly, so in effect you are gaining some profits off the backs of the working class, the same working class who find it hard just to get by with basic living needs.
With regards to your wording i hope that the Banks win the test case so it doesn't affect your personal lifestyle regarding your finances, well i hope they lose they case, this way it will prove how they live off the backs of the less fortunate, those who have very little, and by the time the Banks finish have even less.

I have no Debt, l also live in a council property, but yet i'm still expected to bail out the financial institutes via my tax money, so perhaps you would care to pass your dads words onto the Banks and tell them to only spend what they have :rotfl:

Thanks for yours but for the record I am (and I came from) a working class family. My dad was a miner before that all closed down. As i said, live within your means.. I may not have lots of money but what I do have I spend/invest wisely for my retirement. I can only afford this as I don't smoke, drink or any other vices...just brought up with very strong values like most of the country has

I have no dispute that you have come from the working class, what i am stating is the fact that your profits at this present moment of time or in the future will be subsidised by the tax payer.
And if the banking industry does collapse, then once again this government has made provisions to protect savers interests up to £35,000.. which will be paid by once again you guessed it the bloody tax payer.
