Halifax dirty trick

Hello all First time here!!

I've just received a letter from the lovely Halifax saying that they are withdrawing my overdraft facility of £750 in two weeks and said

"subject to outstanding transaction this may result in your account falling into an unauthorised debt balance. If this happens , you will be liable for unauthorised overdraft charges, and any debit balance will be charged at an unauthorised rate"

So in other words they are saying. we're gonna bury you in bank charges if you don't pay up £750 within 2 weeks.

I can't afford £7.50 never-mind £750 so what is the best way to approach this?

Any advice would be most appreciated

Thanks
Kriss

    Do they give a reason?
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

  • Hi They have never really spoken to me about it in a review capacity, they let me increase it £100 about a year ago.

I have a hefty credit-card debt with them which I'm paying off through a Debt Collection Agency at £5pm which they are probably unhappy about.

The first line of the letter was "Following a recent assessment of you overall relationship with the Halifax"

    Thanks

Isn't that "bank-speak" for "since we are not making a decent profit out of you" ?

You will probably find that it's exactly a year ago. Whenever I change my overdraft facility with Halifax they give me a letter saying it applies for 1 year after which it will be reviewed. This is what I got:
am pleased to tell you that your recent application for an overdraft of £**** has been successful and you can use this overdraft facility straight away. The limit will remain until 18th March 2009, we will review your requirements shortly before this date.

So it's not exactly a dirty trick. Doesn't make it any easier to deal with on your behalf though. I would contact CCCS and see what they have to say.

I think you're probably better off without the overdraft and it going to either a debt collection agency or into a DMP.

This works both ways though doesn't it?
Spend money you don't have on a card and an overdraft then say you can't pay it back.
My conscience wouldn't let me do that.
