Daily for Thursday 29th March 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 19 march. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Cannot sleep, came through and made myself a cuppa, thought I would start the daily..............

Smokey..........((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) you must be busy sorting things out. Try and get some rest if you can.........

Mind is buzzing with various things, just logged on to find our pensions have been paid today, but of course Friday and Monday are Bank holidays.....not that we really notice, one day is very much the ame as another when you no longer have to go to work...............

Need to get my brain into gear for our house sitting stint, want to take something with me to do, may well decide on some hand quilting, not sure I can be bothered to take a sewing machine with me. Would not take my embroidery machine anyway, if it gets damaged its not covered by our insurance if its out of the house..........supose I could always take the small machine.

We need a quick trip to Wilkinsons, OH needs envelopes, I bought 1000 from Viking some time ago, they have all gone and I need a couple of padded envelopes to send out a couple of things.

Watching a pine plant stand on ebay, not that I want it for a plant but for the lamp behind OH's chair.....its pick up only and quite local to us. its starting at a bit more than I really wanted to pay, but I will see how things go.

Right, I am going back to bed to try and get some shut eye, see y'all later.
Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

Morning CSARINA, AUSSIE and all who follow.

Much love to SMOKY - as Csarina has said, I do hope you're finding the time and strength to take care of yourself and that you have a lot of support. I only wish we could be there to hold your hand and take some of the burden away from you.

    CHURCHMOUSE - :hello: :hello: :hello:

Well, I was so tired last night but I had to do the wages for DH's sub-contractors for today and it was hard going. The last thing I felt like doing, with eyes like magnets, was typing! Then we sat down to watch the 'Shameless' recorded from the previous night and I slept all through it.

Doing the wages remided me that I was asked by someone on here (and yet again I can't remember who) about whether a contractor has to provide his subbies with a sort of P60 statement of wages earned and tax paid at the end of the financia year. If the subbies are self-employed the main contractor doesn't need to do this. The subbies will complete their own self-assessment (from HMRC). My DH has only been a contractor since November so all we need to do is complete the Contractor's Monthly Return (such fun!) and send it off by 19th of each month with a cheque for the amount of tax deducted from the subbies. My DH has been self-employed since the beginning of time so his tax situation, whether he is a contractor or subcontractor, is dealt with on his self-assessment with the help of an accountant. I would always recommend using an accountant if you are self-employed; not only do they know all the rules, they also help you to save tax, legitimately of course, and can advise on lots of other things. Also, I find that HMRC are very helpful. I used to hate the thought of having to phone them to ask questions but I really do find them helpful, friendly and full of advice in a non-condescending way so always phone them if you are unsure of anything. Your DH should have a copy of HMRC Construction Industry Scheme - Guide for Contractors and Subcontractors (book CIS340) which is a bit long-winded but does contain the rules. I hope I haven't caused confusion with this! If whoever asked the question in the first place, wants to pm me I can give them the HMRC helpline number - I'm not sure if I can post it on the thread.

Well, I need to get DH up for work in a minute, then I want to give the house a quick going-over. I need to go to the bank (it was only DH reminding me that tomorrow is a bank holiday that I did the wages last night! I'd have been mortified if I hadn't done them and couldn't get the wages paid until the banks re-open on Tuesday! We've had that done to us more than once and it ain't nice!)

Well, this has turned out to be a long post so I'm off to put the porridge on. See you all later.

Good Morning All...where did that week go?!
((HUGS)) to Smoky and all others needing one today.
Am in a flat spin myself today, DS & family arrive today for long w/e, It's parents' evening tonight at school, so don't expect to be home until after 10pm. House looks like a tip.... Have to send off P60s for past six years as recently discovered my tax code is incorrect (should that be orginals or copies, I wonder?) and I have paperwork relating to Mum's bank accounts that I should have forwarded to my sisters...Do you get the feeling that I'm just a tad disorganised at present? OS? What's that? Really need to get back on an even keel and get off the hamster wheel!
And boy is it cold here today - have just dived out in my dressing-gown with a bag of kitchen waste, which is being collected as I type. I just want to crawl back under the duvet I think!
Love to all - hope you have a good day.

    Good morning everyone,

((HUGS)) and thoughts to Smokey xxx

Last day at work for me today, and then i have all of next week off - i cant wait!!!

Its one of the LOs last days today, ive looked after her for almost 5 years, and they are moving away, so its going to be very hard to say goodbye later. I almost cried in Woolworths the other day thinking about it!!! But, i have lots of children here (we are now on Easter holidays, we do it properly down here, cant believe all the places that are only having a few days off, and then having 2 weeks in a couple of weeks time - what sort of Easter is that!!!) so we will have a little party later.

No other plans today, although if i get chance later on i might nip upstairs and do some cleaning - the benefit of having older children here, they help with the smaller ones!!!

Hope everyone has a lovely day,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Morning all

Welcome KMATE and any other new posters.

Happy anniversary to Mr and Mrs Quietlife for yesterday.

HUGS to anyone else who wants one especially SMOKEY, thinking so much of you at this difficult time.

Hope eveyone is ok, have not managed to catch up with the end of the thread. Went to see MIL yesterday, can't believe that my FIL who has a serious heart condition has been picking her up off the floor:eek: . OH and I have spoken to them about contacting Social Services for an assessment and have told them that one of us can be there if they want us to, when they come. Like most older people, they had no idea they were entitled to any help.

Plan today to finish off my study guide. Got my essay back yesterday, am very pleased with the mark and feel like I'm back on track. Need to go to the butchers to get a joint for the weekend and farm shop. Then I'm meeting a lovely friend for lunch out. I met her when I first started my nurse training and don't see enough of her. Tea will be vegetable and lentil soup. Will bung it in the SC shortly. Might do microwave sponge and custard for pud.

    Have a good day all.

    Morning Everyone

Been awake since about 4am so I'm a bit tired now. :(. I've just watched a lovely Cary Grant film on a random Sky channel though so the time wasn't wasted. :D

My head cold hasn't materialised. However DD2(11) wasn't very well last night so I'm expecting her to give school a miss today. She probably can't face another "Fridge Surprise" packed lunch so has developed symptoms of a cold to avoid her interesting sandwiches :o.

    Today I must
    • Climb and conquer the summit of Laundry Mountain. All clean and dry, but needs sorting, ironing and putting away.
    • Change the children's beds. Will need a full decontamination suit before entering DS1(13)'s bedroom, but I'm brave.
    • Find something decent to wear for tonight. OH and I are being entertained by one of his customers. He (OH) won't tell me what kind of a do it is so if I turn up in a posh frock to a backyard barbeque it can't be my fault. Hope DD2's feeling better though , if she's poorly then I can't go. Then again I can't let down OH as the bloke we're meeting is an important client. Hmmmm.... I'll jump off that bridge when I get to it.
    • Shop. We seem to have run out of food again. I don't know where they put it all.
    • Walk the dogs. They had a great swim in the river yesterday, but my car smells like a swamp though. _pale_
On that fragrant note I'll get off.

Hugs to all that need them, especially Smoky.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

It's freezing here too, Katy's up & ready to go already, it seems she has an early appointment today, it would have been better to have told me yesterday.
Long weekend coming up which I'm looking forward to.
DD came over last night with DGD & DGS, it was nice to see them all for a coulpe of hours.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Up early this morning, got lots to do as it is workshop day today.

Weather still dry here despite the forecast for yet more rain. Hope it stays away until at least the school run/walk is done.

Not much to declare from me today so I won't bore you any more :D

    Have a good day all.
