You might try telling him how hard you've worked to make that money available and just ask him to try to bring some of it back...

  • My OH does things like this, and it's really frustrating because he's the one in debt, not me! We're desperately saving for a deposit on a house and he goes and spends money on stupid stuff that he doesn't even need! Men! Grr! Ahh, that's better! My rant is now over too. :)

And people ask me why I like staying single!

I guess the real question is: man, or child with no monetary discipline?

Do you really have to ask if there's a difference? :D (Ooops, don't let Martin see that :D)

Another thing that gets me about men. How come they can put loads of weight on and look in a mirror, suck in their belly and tell you/themselves they've "still got it" - that and just buying bigger trousers!! However, we women are getting fat as soon as that morsel of chocolate so much as zips across the room, leaving in it's wake the merest scent of cocoa to tempt our olfactory senses....

Moggins, sounds like you need to get him to sharpen up, or give him his marching orders! I'm glad me and my girlfriend are both tight and look around charity shops and pound shops for bargains, all our food comes from lidl or cheap butchers/grocers.

We do have lots of stuff we don't need though, 2 TVs (both free incidentally), Game Consoles (bought on ridiculous offers), hifi (ebay and richer sounds). Keeps us off the streets I suppose!

This is a funny topic to read. :rotfl:

I'm not one to brag, but ..... well it is Friday ... I'm a man, and I'm great! :-) I'm honest, kind and generous - a real catch :j

My partner and I spend far more money than we need/ought to but we're both very happy with that and the way we organise the money we bring in. (Is that a terrible thing to admit to on an award winning money saving site? )

We work it so that my wage, which is steady and monthly pays the bills and his which is weekly and depends on the number of shifts he does (he's an Intensive Care agency nurse) pays for leisure.

It has worked really well this way and with lots of trust and honesty will hopefully continue to work well for the future too. The only danger to this would be laziness or jelousy - being a office worker I work 9-5 Mon-Fri. My partner, as an agency nurse can work when he pleases (a luxury I'd be sure to abuse) but he earns in one 12 hour shift nearly as much as I earn in a week!! Of course that means he can do 1 - 3 shifts in a week and get 4 - 6 days off.. but then he studied for 3 years to become a nurse and has to deal with the sick and near death when he's at work - conversly the worst thing in my day would be having to do a complex invoice.

Well, just thought I'd add my bit.. :p

My other half is naughty too. I save all I can and he says he must have something to spend as he works hard. However, he pays out so much in late fees etc sometimes £60.00 plus per month and he is in heavy debt. However, he is so kind and to be honest he is not violent at all and he is the first man I have had that hasnt been.

Anyway most women could get buy with out a man - buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Hope my post doesnt get deleted but come on that was funny! :)

In defence of men, I have a really good one, and he is SUPERB with his money! He hardly has any at the moment, as he's on incapacity benefit, and yet he's still managing to reduce every week his student overdraft and credit card from when he did his degree (and he lived on the breadline then, so these debts are quite tiny, just hard to pay off quickly from benefits). He budgets, lives within his means. We're very lucky that we have the same values really, and the same outlook on spending and saving (treat yourself, in moderation, if you can't aford something, you can't have it). I have the benefit of his maturity (he's 17 years older than me, so of course we're about the same maturity level! ;) ), and the fact that he has lived independently for a lot of his life, so he doesn't expect to be mothered. He hates being dependant on benefits and hopes that will change as soon as possible. He's a real star, and financially savvy! :T So, there are some good ones...I was always so pleased to bag a man, rather than a boy...my first long term boyfriend was a spending nightmare. I hear on the grapevine that he still is...lucky escape there!
