TV Licence article Discussion

I don't understand many of the comments here on the bbc tax?! I have not had a "tv licence" for over 20 years, but I do watch the bbc inc their iplayer with zero problems, it's easy
the last time I had one of the bbc's bullies with their clipboards knock at my door, I opened the door and said "please remove yourself from my property NOW", they left!Never, but never get into any conversation with them, btw they never came back! 👍Customer Services - what a joke!0 -
Is there any point going to their website and declaring you wish to cancel or not renew your licence.
Do they take any notice or do they still send letters and their agents?0 -
They say that they take notice and the letters will cease for 2 years, but that someone may still visit your home. On which basis, I would say personally that it was a waste of time, but there are different views on it.2010 said:Is there any point going to their website and declaring you wish to cancel or not renew your licence.

I stopped receiving letters once declaring online, but there is no way to know if that was just a coincidence.Cornucopia said:

In my case, the 'every 2 years' for being asked if I now needed one was pretty much bang on every 20 months. I got fed up of being asked early, so stopped completing it. I now get the regular letters, and came home one day to find someone had called (business card in mailbox) - but they've never come back despite the card saying they would. I didn't have anything during the years I was completing the declaration.Cheryl1

If you`re no longer a customer of the BBC I think you can request your data to be removed.

I wonder if anyone has actually got their details removed from BBC records? I've asked but been told they have the right to keep your address on file even if you've told them to remove it?2010 said:If you`re no longer a customer of the BBC I think you can request your data to be removed.

But did you make a request quoting "my right under data protection law" and giving them 30 days to reply?4justice2 said:

They would probably use the "detection of crime" get-out clause. Watching/recording "live" broadcasts without a licence is a criminal offence.
