And recycling isn't just about climate change. It's also about preserving resources and dealing with "waste" in the most cost effective manner.
I agree with recycling in principle, it makes sense.
The problem is, those that attempt to implement it have zero common sense.
My experience proves the case.
Recycling is a problem being tackled from the wrong end.
That I can go to a supermarket and buy 6 apples that are sitting in a polystyrene, 6 apple shaped tray, that is covered by a hard plastic lid, that is, in turn, shrouded by a polythene bag, shows that the recycling farce is a con.
It's all about money (as usual).
There is no reason, apart from financial, for most of the plastics used in packaging.
They will never stop it, at least not in our lifetimes.
Same with cars. No need for any family car to have an engine larger than 1 litre yet they still produce 2, 4, 6, 8 litre 'cars'.
Why are vehicles sold in the UK that can do speeds of 80, 90, 100............200 mph?
The maximum speed limit is 70 mph. Again, money.
Unlimited travel is allowed.
Easily solved. Every citizen gets an air miles allowance.
Say, enough for return travel to the furthest point on the globe from where they live per annum.
They can choose to use those miles for one trip or for several trips closer to home.
Will that happen? No.
Why? Money.
The list goes on and if they were all implemented emissions would dwindle.0 -

I'm a member of a couple of FB groups that are aimed at helping people to save money, and over the last couple of weeks there have been a LOT of questions about whether or not people need a licence for what they're watching.
I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the number of members who say
1. everyone should pay whether they watch or not, as the BBC is an institution we shouldn't risk losing
2. you should have to have one if you own any appliance capable of being used to receive any of the broadcasts requiring one (including a mobile phone because of iPlayer)
3. you only need one if you're watching BBC (live or iPlayer) - you can watch everything else live without one
4. you need one if you own a TV set, even if you only watch DVDs
5. "my TV works just fine without one"
6. "I had to let them in to prove my TV set can't get a signal"
Bangs head against brick wall :wall:, tries not to retaliate against abuse received when correcting people :silenced:, and seriously considers leaving the groups completely :undecidedCheryl0 -

My own TV licence expired in April.
Since 05 March I have been staying with my mother in her home as she fell, was hospitalised for a long time and is now home though frail and not able to be left alone. I've not spent any time in my own home since then and can't see me getting back anytime soon.
Now I'm getting letters about lack of licence - mail is being redirected - the last one had 'you are hereby given official notice' in large red letters visible in the address window of the envelope.
I am maintaining my home and won't be giving it up.
Am I liable to pay for a new licence when the property is not being lived in?
Thanks.0 -
It's not what you own, it's what you do with it that determines whether you need a license or not.
Having said that, do you have a PVR that is still recording stuff?0 -
