So are guys that are not paying the fee still watching Live TV/iPlayer?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not.

Nor me - all legal here.

And I imagine that MSE would prefer there to be no promotion of law-breaking within the forums.

The one time they called when I was in, it sounded like they were trying to smash the door down. A sure fire way to elicit polite answers to their questions [not].. My front door opens outwards, and if one stands too close, it may break a nose especially if you're trying to break it down :D
That makes me wonder if it might be part of their training... the ones calling at mine seem to be trying to rip the letterbox off the door.

Not that I really know of course... I'm always 'out' when they decide to call. ;)

They won't call here, because we have a licence.
But if anyone came hammering on my door without a damn good reason, they had better expect me to be less than pleased to see them!

Same here, which is odd, because I have a bell.

Their behaviour contradicts what they say, namely:-

"We’ll be courteous at all times."
    and

    "Avoid threatening or intimidating behaviour."

    That isn't guaranteed.
What are the terms and conditions of a standard TV Licence?

    Other conditions

Our Officers may visit the licensed place to check our records and inspect the TV receiving equipment. You don’t have to let them in.

The Licence fee is going up in April. :j
Absolutely no difference to me - I've not had a licence since 1st Jan 2011

I looked at things on iPlayer a couple of times before they decided we needed a licence for that. Nothing since, and I have the iPlayer server blocked on my router so no-one can come calling/visiting and manage to connect via my system. I rarely even watch live TV when I'm away from home and staying in a licenced property.

Fair enough pointing that out, but it's them giving themselves powers that they have no right to as far as I can see, they don't have their own fixed equipment in your home like the service suppliers.
Also I've never had a visit from them, and I don't know anyone who has a licence who has had a visit.
I pay the licence fee because there is a certain amount of content on there I want to see, but if I didn't pay it because I stopped watching said content, they needn't bother to try strong-arm tactics with me.
It's not a police state here yet.

It's not a power, so much as a wish, which they admit.

Interesting how they don't mention that, in the letters to unlicensed addresses.

I'd say that amounts to lying by omission.
Also I've never had a visit from them, and I don't know anyone who has a licence who has had a visit.

I don't know of anyone either, but that doesn't mean it doesn't/can't happen.

We'd be unlikely to hear about it if it did happen, because they're unlikely to act aggressively or threateningly, toward someone who is paying paying them.
I pay the licence fee because there is a certain amount of content on there I want to see

I take it that's BBC content?
  • It’s really quite laughable how the BBC still try to con people into thinking they have any sort of equipment that can detect a working tv. They don’t.
Short of putting their ear against the door, or seeing you watching live tv through the window, they have no way of detecting a tv (or laptop or mobile device etc.)
The old-fashioned detector vans, with their funny satellite-like dishes were purely for show. They don’t even exist anymore.
So, if they come knocking, feel free to politely ask them to vacate your doorstep.
