IIUC, the quarters are personal ie. they are based on the month you originally started the Licence.
Some people report being asked to tell them why they are cancelling, and in some cases to submit proof. I didn't have any of this when I cancelled, although it was just after the Newsnight/Savile scandal, and I made it clear to them that that was the reason.0 -

what possible proof could you show them?
I was asked why I wanted to cancel, just said as I was no longer watching live TV, I got my refund, no issue at all.0 -
When renters have cancelled and said they were moving, they've been asked for new address details and a copy of the tenancy agreement. IIRC.0

they can ask, doesn't mean you have to give.
My advise in that situation would be say no, or say you are cancelling because you no longer watch TV live, don't mention the move, all else fails cancel by recorded letter.
In my experience, it's Capita that you have more trouble with, TV licencing can ask a question they don't have the right to know the answer to, but will carry out the request to cancel when asked.0 -
Yes, probably the easiest answer is to say you're moving abroad. If you're happy to lie to them (it's not an offence). That way any letters will be addressed to "The Legal Occupier" from the outset.
BTW, the TVL call centre is run by Capita. Still some issues there, though I have found it possible to reason with some of their specialist staff in the past.0 -

Agree, didn't know that about the call center, yep lie away :rotfl:(as long as you stay within the law)0 -
I noticed that BBC IPlayer has an option to start a live program from the beginning.
So the program may be half finished but you can watch the start while the last half is still being broadcast live.
Does this count as needing a TV licence?
How much of a delay is needed to make this a "catchup"?0 -
It's one of those things that's probably technically legal, but unwise. TVL state a 2 hour window from live, but this has no basis in law.
However, I doubt that the BBC goes to the trouble of removing a programme from iPlayer when it is repeated later in the week, so you could be watching at the same time as it's going out live and not even know.
Overall, I'd probably wait for it to appear on iPlayer proper.0 -
I don't see how there can be a 2 hour window..
programs used to be available on iplayer about an hour after the live showing ended, then they were available almost immediately after they finished.. now they are there as soon as they start.. presumably because of technology advances.
They can't impose a 2 hour ban on stuff they put out for immediate use.0 -
oh yes they can , they make it up as they go along ,
capita (who own parking eye) only want one thing0
