There is no entitlement to be able to afford to buy a house. If you cant afford to do so then you can rent.

Just not off the council eh?

What a vile person thevogan is.

Yes I am a single parent.
    Yes I don't currently work.

Am I stealing from the tax payers?
Well no not really. What I am doing is actually getting back some of what has been paid in (by me).

    Can I work?

Well strictly speaking I am of employment age, with good qualifications so the answer should be yes....actually it's a no.

    Am I disabled?
Nope but 2 of my children are and yes one gets DLA and do you know, every single penny of what is received from DLA goes to dealing with the disability, from specialist food, extra cleaning of bedding, clothes, carpets etc due to one of the problems being a bowel disorder (yes it is so nice to be faced with that at 7am in the morning) and therapies.

    Do I want to work?

You bet your blooming life I do!

Reasons why not able to work?

Child carers just not wanting to take on special needs kids which require a hell of a lot more work than 'normal' ones, despite them advertising otherwise....oh and pressure from the education authority saying I was unsettling the children and undoing all their hard work!

I have worked (and in fact do volunteer work which I can stop in school holidays), I am not a layabout, I don't expect a living for doing nothing and more importantly, I didn't just 'pop' another one out to get more benefits as at the time I was married (we actually did it the old fashioned way, got married and then had children) and despite us being worse off, returned to work straight away. I have even considered not telling childcarers about the boys disabilties just to get someone to take them on so I can go back to work but I would only get found out and then have to ruin a perfect work reputation by letting my employer down.

Oh and I live in a housing association house.

Ahhhhhh I am the scourge, the scourge I tell ye! :rotfl:

Edited to add - I can actually relate to some of the arguements, 3 years ago I would have agreed about layabout single mums whilst both myself and hubby had good jobs and bringing in a good amount of money each month...until I found myself unintentionally one of them.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sue, you are the type of person who SHOULD be receiving the welfare entitlements, but there are people out there who take it without needing to.

Not with my tax money, thanks. They should totally abolish council housing.

But council housing is not subsidised - your tax money does not go into council housing.

This year local authority council housing departments will pay about £200million more to the treasury than they get out. (through the housing subsidy system) This is on top of the money that is paid to governement from Right to Buy Sales, and the sale of local authority housing land to raise other money. (The Moonlight Robery campaign estimates that £1400 million is lost by tenants this year if debt charges are included). In effect council house tenants are subject to an addtional tax.

Mind you, dont let a few facts get in the way of your vile and offensive point of view.

    RIGHT!!!

I hope you judging lot never end up loosing your home, sharing B&B with scum bag druggies with kids that get priority,
do you know I cant even be bothered to spell check this lot, im sure some of you will mention that too,m get a life and thank god im not bitter and twisted like some of you, let the flames commence you morons!!
Oh and for the good guys on here, cheers :D

I work with drug users and find this quite judgmental (considering you have accused others of being), female drug users often come with histories of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. They tend to use drugs to self medicate and to try and live with the "stuff in their heads". Many of these girls need support and should be entitled to all the help and support local authorities can provide. Female drug users with children should be helped so they can break the cycle that has often been carried down from one generation to the next. Drug abuse is just another form of self abuse, when a person is used to being treated badly they think this is all they deserve from life. It take more than a B&B or a council house to rewire and fix their self esteem but with time anyone can return to society and lead a productive life.

No one knows how a person gets to where they are at, so labeling and judging only delays the interventions that are provided for substance misusers.

Does anyone out there know whether we are entitled to a bigger
    council place?
2 adults, my daughter who is 12, and partners 8 year old son
that stays every other weekend. (9 this year)

We live in a 2 bed council flat, his son sleeps on settee in front room
    when he stays.

Are we entitled to a 3 bed?

Thanks ahead for any help, and how do you get a HA place?
    What is the difference?

We both work, me part time, him full time £17.000 a year between us.

Its very hard to get adequate housing these days. The most important thing is you must fight for your rights. You will be up against Bureaucracy and they will appear to close ranks on you!

Put everything in writing-1 letter is worth 1000,00 phone calls believe me and CC your letters to your MP councillors and all officers, keep those letters coming in and stay on the point-keep them sharp and clear.Don't expect instant victory it may take years and years. Don't give in have faith!

I agree with all you have wrote above, but I can also understand that no parent would want to have their children living around drug addicts.

Haven't trawled through all 18 pages - did Eli get her bigger house does anyone know?

BTW - what about replacing sofa with a sofa bed, and buying DS favourite duvet cover to make it 'his'. Is there anyway you could do a swift night time conversion like put a reading lamp next to sofa, and make quite clear to everyone in the house that they must knock in the morning before waking him up etc. to make it feel like his room?
  • These people are both hard working, its not their fault that the housing market is far out of reach to ordinary working people.
The Gov should have governed and put controls on the housing market to keep prices capped. we are now in a mess and the housing boom has caused inflationary pressures, so poor people have to cap their pay rises to 3.3% and be further away from owning a home. All working people should be able to afford to buy using 3.5 times their income, its ridiculous that they can't, but 3.5 x £17,000, would only secure a loan of £59,500.What can you but with that? So please stop calling these struggling working peopls spongers, because they are not! If Houses were sold at affordable levels then there would be less demand for council housing and less inflationary pressures on the economy!

In Surrey, its twice that for one of those "park homes" (mobile homes on a patch of land).
