Council house entitlement!!!

She did bring up her children there, and of course I appreciate your point about her not leaving her home. I was just making the point that the way it works is stupid, people have the right to buy council houses, which are supposed to be for poorer people to live in. I can't blame people for taking the opportunity, but because people have now bought most of them, and none have been built to replace them, there is now a huge waiting list. People staying in them when they obviously could afford to move into private renting (she has a brand new car when she doesn't even work :S) and don't need to live in a 3 bedroom house at miles below the market average rent amplifies that problem too.
As you rightly said, why would she move out when it is her home and she doesn't have to? On the other hand, there is probably a family who would love to move in there who need the space much more than her!
It is a difficult one,0 -
Oooohhh this thread has made my blood boil!
Good thing that when it was really relevant, I was not a member of the forum or I think my blood pressure would have gone through the roof.
So many holier than thou looking down at others people on this thread.........We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Not with my tax money, thanks. They should totally abolish council housing. Other countries manage fine without it. Get a job and earn rent for the property you desire. Start with a tent and move upwards if necessary. 1 Million Poles working over here shows that there is NO excuse for not working.
I dont see why my tax money should support a terminally lazy bunch of !!!!!!. If you claim to be jobless and are under retirement age (68), they should make you do public service work - e.g. sweeping streets - in exchange for your rent / income support.
Single mums should be provided with compulsory free child day care while claiming so they to have to go out and earn their keep as above; so they cant sit on their rear all day watching Sky TV at the expense of those of us that work. I bet many would think twice about unsupported breeding if it meant they still had to graft to pay the bills.
The same applies for disability benefit - it should be totally abolished - and replaced with grants only for specific equipment needs, or payments made directly to carers like they do with child care. So many OAPs and even young people these days pretending they cant walk to the doctor and then jetting off on their skiing holiday at our expense. I dont see why someone disabled should automatically get more to live off than a normal scrounger or OAP (other than the two exceptions above). It's not our fault if you are sandwich short of a picnic.
I bet you bunch of work shy scrounging lowlife labour voters would soon get a real job once your meal ticket for life disappeared.
That is of course excluding those of you that already have a job but claim anyway. At least you work and have some input to the economy as well as defrauding the state.

Just to rub it in a bit more, we have been on the council waiting list for 3 years and have been told there is a 9 year wait for council accomodation, whilst living right next door in a 3 bedroom council house (which could be easily converted to a 4 bed) is a single woman.
my mum lives in a 2bd council house that is far too big and has a ginourmous garden which she finds difficult to look after. My step father is now ill and almost blind. They would LOVE to live in a little sheltered place, 1bdrm, no garden, no stairs etc. So far they have been offered a top floor flat up 3 flights of stairs and no lift and a flat in a terrible estate, at the top of a hill with no bus route. The HA has now decided to go with the bid system on ALL applications, which means that they have to bid, along with everybody else, for elderly person accomodation. They have no computer and wouldn't know how use one anyway, and can only get out when someone takes them, making popping into the library etc a monthly visit. The local papers do carry the ads (some of them are even in time), but the system is not "user friendly" to older people". I do it when I have access to the internet--but that is not always when the places are there.
They have just recieved yet another letter from the ha which says that the waiting list for the accomodation to suit thier needs stands at about 3yrs at the moment--perhaps the ha hopes that they will all die and save them the bother of moving them. It has got to the point where it will soon be too late to make a move worthwhile, which would mean a good family house is taken out of circulation until they either die or need full time care.LBM-2003ish

Its pretty obvious that the solution to our current socialist disease is to make living off the rest of us a no win situation.
While people can live reasonably comfortably by doing nothing, why are they going to be motivated to do anything whatsoever?
Unfortunately some people have no shame in living in subsidised housing at the expense of the rest of us, so the only way to fix the problem is make it more inconvenient than having a real job and paying their own rent.0 -

The way to fix the 'problem', if indeed this problem exists outside the pages of the Daily Mail, is to make the retention of council housing means-tested. Every 5 years or so, the occupants need to have their income checked and and requirements checked so that if they earn enough to move to private accomodation, then off they go - freeing the council house up for more needy people or if their requirements change, like a 4 bed home occupied by a couple whose kids have left home, are re-assigned to a smaller home.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)
