Council house entitlement!!!
Comments

Have to laugh.... people saying 'adults' should be kicked out of the family home at 18 and live in a bed sit or shared housing, yet also saying that people should buy their own home or rent privately. Is that not simply putting more strain on the housing system?
Would it not be more logical for the 'adult' to stay in the family home, build a career to afford a morgage/rent and save for the deposit?
I should also say that you can also claim housing benefit for a private rent, usually the private rent is a lot more, so... subsidised rent for both, yet the council house occupant is sponging even though they may be paying full rent and not receiving HB?
Surely your problem is with HB and not council houses?
Encouraging people to move into private rents is just making the whole problem worse. A house comes up for sale, families try to buy the house but are outbid by 'buy to let' buyers. House then goes up for rent at increased rates to pay for the house having been bought for a higher than market value. Families find they can not afford to buy house and private rents are increasing due to demand.0 -
Not with my tax money, thanks. They should totally abolish council housing. Other countries manage fine without it. Get a job and earn rent for the property you desire. Start with a tent and move upwards if necessary. 1 Million Poles working over here shows that there is NO excuse for not working.
I dont see why my tax money should support a terminally lazy bunch of !!!!!!. If you claim to be jobless and are under retirement age (68), they should make you do public service work - e.g. sweeping streets - in exchange for your rent / income support.
Single mums should be provided with compulsory free child day care while claiming so they to have to go out and earn their keep as above; so they cant sit on their rear all day watching Sky TV at the expense of those of us that work. I bet many would think twice about unsupported breeding if it meant they still had to graft to pay the bills.
The same applies for disability benefit - it should be totally abolished - and replaced with grants only for specific equipment needs, or payments made directly to carers like they do with child care. So many OAPs and even young people these days pretending they cant walk to the doctor and then jetting off on their skiing holiday at our expense. I dont see why someone disabled should automatically get more to live off than a normal scrounger or OAP (other than the two exceptions above). It's not our fault if you are sandwich short of a picnic.
I bet you bunch of work shy scrounging lowlife labour voters would soon get a real job once your meal ticket for life disappeared.
That is of course excluding those of you that already have a job but claim anyway. At least you work and have some input to the economy as well as defrauding the state.

Thanks for tarring everyone with the same brush!!!!
We live in a council house and my husband works full time. He may lose his job soon so we worked out if we would be able to live...We would be £100 per month better off if he had no job!!
Why does he not just give his job up?! Because we think that people should have to work for a living instead of just get everything for nothing!
We have a council house because it is was the only way to get somewhere to live in this area. We live in the country in a small village which is being taken over by 2nd home owners and city dwellers...moving to the country!
As for your comments about disablity..I agree that some people do abuse the system and therefore that needs to be sorted but to abolish it completely is ridiculous! My grandad is an oap who is bedridden form several strokes why should he have to be punished due to the abusers of the system.
You really should consider all of the issues before badmouthing all council tenants and disabled people.0 -
Surely your problem is with HB and not council houses? .
No they are 2 seperate problems. Not everyone who has a council house is on HB. Some are just getting housing that is subsidised by other tax payers and have no entitlement to benefits. So at least they are working or have their own money, but they are still getting cheap housing paid for by the tax payer.Encouraging people to move into private rents is just making the whole problem worse. A house comes up for sale, families try to buy the house but are outbid by 'buy to let' buyers. House then goes up for rent at increased rates to pay for the house having been bought for a higher than market value. Families find they can not afford to buy house and private rents are increasing due to demand.
There is no entitlement to be able to afford to buy a house. If you cant afford to do so then you can rent. In many other countries (e.g. Germany) personal house ownership is almost unknown and almost everybody rents.
Rent levels are driven by supply and demand - just like any other property related price. If families are 'outbid' then clearly they couldnt afford the market value. If the price goes up due to demand then that is the new market value.0 -
i.e. the tax payer is subsidising you living in a nice area that is beyond your means. We have a council house because it is was the only way to get somewhere to live in this area. Why should he receive any more money than a standard unemployed person? If anything if he is bed ridden he needs less money. My grandad is an oap who is bedridden form several strokes why should he have to be punished due to the abusers of the system.
As I said - with the exception of specialist care requirements (that should be paid directly to the licenced carer) and specialist equipment requirements - e.g. a wheelchair - I dont see why there should be such a benefit as disability allowance.
Pretty much everywhere gives discounts to the disabled, they get free parking, etc. so if anything they need less money to live.0 -

I may be wrong, but I don't think vogon likes any body who is on benefits. I can see his point ofcourse--if a man is bedridden he will need less food than a working person, and will have no need of the tv, radio etc. Yes--I see it all--I have been soo wrong in thinking that all people should be treated like human beings--- thevogon has converted me!!!!! com'on thevogon--how about you start a new political party??? you go off and find a nice dark room to lie down in somewhere and think up all your fantastic ideas and we will all be along shortly.

The sort of social 'welfare' system you seem to be advocating, where the weak are seen as a burden on society was tried in 1930's Germany by the National Socialist party. They implemented a program of euthanasia within hospitals called "Aktion T4" to eliminate "life unworthy of life".
I suggest you read up on the sort of atrocities that people with similar views as yours committed and then you'll at least be able to speak from a position of knowledge rather than ignorance.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

.
Who do they rent off then if most people don't own?
Is it just a few elite rich landlords?0
