I think the moral here is try not to write 'am I entitled to' if what you really mean is 'am I likely to qualify for'!

When you use 'entitled' people can read (or choose to read) that as 'am I morally entitled to' or 'do I deserve' and the answer is likely to be different (and, sadly, unjustifiably nastier) than the answer to the boring technical question of whether or not you're just likely to qualify for such and such a thing under the current rules.
'Entitled' pushes too many buttons.

trying to bet private rented in our area is unreal ,my partner and i tryed yesterday for a 4bed house rent 1,300 month got there viewed house [not to bad ] got turned down as 5 adults and one child would be living their so were still stuck in a rut ?
That is the same as prices around here Ally, did they refuse you because you wanted to share?? Not sure where you are but there are many houses near airports that are let out per room so you could rent the whole house and each couple signs the TA as they need the room and that would solve a whole lot of problems. Not sure where you live though to be able to say if that applies in your area - oh, but the room price also includes all bills most of the time!! I beleive it can cost around £1600-£2000 for a 4 bedroom house with 4 sharing parties - but that is not bad as i includes the bills. They are aimed at the airline workers.0 -

I didn't say that they had more rights, I said that, as EU citizens, they have the same rights.
I didn't realise though that it is the local council who state the criteria for who gets housed and that some say you have to have lived in an area for a certain amount of time. What happens if your area get a family who are new to the area, but who have nowhere to live?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Just trying to get the point across that people who earn 17K cannot get on the property ladder in the lower half of the UK. Its not about moving a town or two down the road. Its a problem in half the country.
People on half decent wages in the cheaper half of the country, just cannot seem to sympathise with it.0 -
Does anyone know what sort of money a couple would need to earn to get a £250,000 mortgage (that would get you a small family home in much of the south)?
What wages would a family, not yet on the property ladder need to have?
Then maybe people will understand how difficult it is for many people.0 -
Don'tforget this house has been gifted to you on behalf of the public.
Some people have paid council tax before they move into a a council property and some of them are still paying it whilst they live there! So in effect they're paying for the property just as much as any other member of the public! :mad:0 -
We really need to get away from this whole council housing is a gift/charity/benefit thing.
Housing benefit is a benefit, having a council house is a non profit making rental. So no landlord is raking it in, but the tenants are paying their share.
I think it is really rude to keep insisting that people in council houses or housing !!! houses are living off tax payers.
People on housing benefits are getting tax payers money, but people who pay their rent are not getting subsidised.0 -

We have already established earlier in this thread, that 2 adults working for minimum wage, with 1 child will gross a lot more than 17k in wages alone, plus they then have various benefits
