WHat area do you live in?
Cos round here, the polish live in shred accomodation, it's hard enouigh for the english to get housed round here, no way would a polish student be entitled to accomodation here. And they certainly wouldnt get more pionts for being 'foreign'
Yes every local council has their points allocation published on the web it's a requirement legally - maybe the poster could post the link to the council as evidence.....

Council houses are not... a god given right. Attitude of british has turned from a hard working caste of people proud of their nation to a nation of 'cusped hands'... always expecting more and more from the system... not wanting to work certain jobs... but demanding to get a house while not working in their life...expecting to have children but have the government support them for them.

Council houses are a real god send for many people but you cannot demand them. Problem is more and more people want to rely on council housing so theres a shortage.

Nope, I live in a housing association house, which is not paid for by council tax as it;s a non profit organization, bit like a charity.
I also pay my rent and council tax - SHOCK HORROR!

I live in Plymouth. The Polish girl lived with her Boyfriend in a 1 bedroom council flat... now even tho she could sell her flat in poland has got another 1 bedroom flat because she broke up with her boyfriend. She fiddled the system or something because after 5-6 months she had a new flat (Said she had nowhere to live and couldnt understand english very well). She was placed in a higher priority band because it was an 'emergency' i.e he would maybe hit her/throw her out.

Nothing was checked... Wasnt checked she has enouy to buy a house and now she gets rent free accomoadtion... ho hum for britain the nation of slackers and freebies :)

She abused system easily. Makes my blood boil

  • Further to what I posted earlier about my single son not being able to afford to even rent on his own.,.....there are only two of his single friends who have their own place. One was given a Council flat because of horrific home background and medical problems. The other has bought his own two-bedroom flat because a relative left him a lot of money (he also has medical problems; he has spina bifida and is a wheelchair user)..

Most of his friends work, in fact the only ones who don't are the two who have their own places, and his girlfriend who has just dropped ot of Uni as she couldn't cope with it. She lives with her mother.

All his other friends are either living with their parents or in shared houses. (Two of them live in mine, along with my son).

Just to give people a view of what a problem housing can be for the single, childless person.

Can he not go into shared accomodation like the rest of us? I've had to share since going to uni with other people 4 people to a house... just to make ends meat. Had to work weekends while at uni and then pay 270 quid per month for all bills inlucded in a house share. I fail to see how any single person cannot just house share it... and anyone can afford that amount per monthon a full time job.

Those with families want more privacy, so I know single people have a hard time 'buying' a house... im one of them... but they dont have a hard time renting out a room in a shared house...

Giving a council house to a single person is cheeky.

They are tax payers, paying their way.
They are council rent payers, paying their way.

NOW why don't you go & have a go at a family that are happy to sit on benefits (eitheron "the sick" or job seekers or whatever) & get EVERYTHING paid for them & this this financially struggling family alone.

Oh, I know why, because its not PC to say anything to the benefit takers, so lets hammer this woman who has a council home (she pays rent for) instead.

Also being from the south, I understand there is a massive problem for families & couples on "normal" wages every being able to get on the propery ladder.

Houses are NOT 35K down here you know:rolleyes:

I'd think thats quite rude. You've basically called my a hypocrite and a coward (whilst assuming my opinions on people who receive benefits) and told me to take my opinions elsewhere. Oh, and also I'm a bully because I dare to have an opinion that she shouldnt be entitled to a 3rd bedroom - an opinion that you claim to share  Yet I get pounced upon for saying the same thing? You've also been very patronising with the above comment and the comment that I have rose tinted glasses. I've never once said that their isnt a problem with house prices in this country. I've agreed that rents are too high and mortgages - I know it first hand as i'm struggling along with the rest who didn't buy before house prices went crazy. My point was that if both adults are working and there's a capacity for increasing income as suggested by the OP, why is it just a minority that get help with subsidised rents? There aren't enough council houses to go around so I dont think its the solution - I think the government actually doing something about capping rents or providing new affordable housing for people to get on the ladder is fairer.

Houses are NOT 35K down here you know:rolleyes:[/QUOTE]

And the above comment complete with rolly eyes is just down right rude and ignorant.
