Windows Virtual Memory. What is it and where can I find it on XP?

Unless you really REALLY need to, let Windows sort it out, if you do it manually and don't give it enough it will not like you for it. BUT if you really want to, try and set it to a second hard drive to the Operating System and set the initial size as your actual RAM so if you have 1024MB of RAM set the initial size as 1024, and the Maximum as twice that figure.

Setting the page file on a different hard drive speeds up the computers access of this page file. If you have more than one hard disk that is :D

Please help---It seems XP does not support the scanner which had been installed and used for a few years, does it mean that I have to replace with another one that is compatible. The scanner is Packard Bell Diamond 2400Plus. cheers.

Post a new thread. This thread is "TECHIE TERMS", ie asking about terminology.

This thread is specifically for "Techie Terms" ie terminology definitions. For actual technical problems you are better off posting it as a new thread.

virtual memory is what your computer uses as extra memory, virtual as its not really there. Its a small section of your hard drive instead. what with hard drives being a lot slower than real memory its better if you can have as much as poss real physical memory. 512-1GB seems to be the norm now. You should avoid anything with only 256 cos windows sitting there doing nothing will use 128 at least.

they say i downloaded the stuff but i can swear that i have never done anything of the sort. then i read that it automaically can download to your pc and is very difficult to get rid of. i followed the regedit instructions as displayed on the link i have provided but once i get the file ZONEMAp in regedit, there is meant to be a file called DOMAINS following it but its not there, so i cannot manually delete it now either. what can i do, please help me ????
