Been off radar as went home for a few days and no interweb there. Can't believe how many squares we have now. I'll update the sig when I have unpacked the ones I did at home. Only hope I haven't left my crochet hook in Yorkshire....Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

Now slightly worried I might have used the wrong wool. The first ones were made from wool that I 'rescued' and they are definitely different. A bit less floppy if you know what I mean (keep it clean!) Have just stolen favourite crochet hook back from the kitten who thought it was a great toy and so will start on another square. Planning the Smokey square for this weekend - think I might have a bash at a patterned one with different coloured wools.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

Lainey - that's the perfect size for the blankets. They will be our next target!
I'll do a new post with our 'guidelines' tomorrow just as a refresher to save newbies having to trawl through this thead - now on it's 24th page - unbelievable! I shall suggest that everyone prints it off, too, so that they have all the info to hand.
Many thanks for all your help and advice.

Finished 2 more HTA squares and currently finishing fourth one for Smoky...they will go off next week when totally finished.
Question: for sewing up are we leaving a long 'tail' or do the 'sewers' use a different wool ??
MarieWeight 08 February 86kg0 -
Hi Meanmarie - I've been weaving the ends of the yarn into the work as you would for other knitted items. I would assume the sewer-uppers use their own yarn and keep to one colour, otherwise they'd be continually rethreading their needles. My squares have been received by OECS with thanks along with a note to say not to use fancy yarns for the squares, just regular DK; if they needed us to leave 'tails' on, I'm sure they would have said.
A bit later on, when I'm more awake, I shall repost the Wooligans' Guidelines just to refresh everyone. Newbies are joining all the time and the thread is a long one to trawl through to get all the info plus it is continually evolving so it would be useful to have all the info, addresses etc. on one post that can be printed off.
Well, I have nearly finished another square for Smoky but I have fallen asleep whilst knitting it twice! My DH says I carry on knitting once I've dozed off so he has to take the knitting from me; consequently, I have made the same mistake twice in the square and have had to unpick it twice! DH has promised he doesn't take over the knitting when I'm asleep so it's not his fault!

Well done, everyone!! 30 squares needed to complete a second HTA blanket then we can do 7" squares for OECS to sew up. 9 and a half squares needed to complete Smoky's and then 105 for the blankets for her LOs at 35 squares per blanket. Will go and update my sig now!
Will catch up later.

Hi Gingham, double knit is ideal and will give the size using 40 stitches and the size of needles you have.
I've got some 100% acrylic today and it feels soft, that way it is machine washable.
Somehow I got my numbers muddled and I made 80 stitches, not 40. I didn't realise until I'd done a couple of rows. It looks much smaller when you're 'casting on' (or whatever it's called!)
Anyway, I have to unravel it and start again but I'm pretty proud of myself. It's the furthest I've got by myself before as the couple of times I've tried in the past my mum's started it off for me!:rotfl:
I'm nearly 37. It's time I learned how to do it myself!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
