Morning everyone! Someone asked recently how many children Smoky has for when we start making blankets for them. Well, she kindly posted an update on how she is coping since losing her DH and, from that, I discovered that she has three, two boys and a girl. I feel a lot of blue and pink squares will be made now. I'm sure they'll be most welcome and will bring a lot of comfort. It won't be long before we have enough for Smoky's blanket so I'm going to sus out my stash for more colours.
LAINEY - as I have already said, I don't expect you to sew up the children's blankets as well as Smoky's! People can send their squares to me!

Hi,
Haven't posted for a bit but have been crotcheting, am up to 5 squares for HTA and hope to get another couple done before weekend, when I will post them off.
When are we changing to 7" squares please.0 -
Hi WASBROKE - thanks so much for doing all those squares! As for the 7", we need to change to those once we have enough 8" ones for OECS. Each blanket takes 63 squares - I thought we would slowly reach that number but, amazingly, we quickly went past it! I'll update my sig and the running total list that Lainey drew up - at the last count it was 90 but I see some more squares have been completed so I'll do another total - and, once we have reached enough for two blankets, 126 squares in total, we should then start doing the 7" ones.
Thanks again for all your hard work.
Thanks PIPPA, AUSSIE and TWINK for your updates!

Hi PINK - as R.MAc has said - you haven't missed out! We are currently still doing 8" squares in double knitting wool (in warm colours such as red, orange, rust etc) on size 8 (4mm) needles, for our second blanket for the elderly which will be sewn up by OECS (a few pages back, I posted the address to which they should be sent) and, for that, we need another 33 squares. After that, we will start knitting 7" squares because that is the size that OECS usually deal with. We are also currently knitting and crocheting squares for Smoky's banket. Smoky is a regular poster on the OS Daily thread and, sadly, lost her husband recently. We are making a blanket for her and smaller ones for each of her two sons and one daughter; these are also in 8" squares and our own personal choice of colours. For anyone who wants to knit for other charity appeals, Oxfam are currently asking for 9" squares to be made into one giant blanket and www.lovinghands.org.uk are also connected with charity appeals and have loads of free-to-download patterns for knitted items that are desperately needed throughout the world.
The running total is constantly going up so keep an eye on that and I also try and keep my sig updated.
I was also just thinking - does anyone have any idea how many squares we should do for each of the blankets for Smoky's children?
Will call back later.
