Ebay gets worse in my opinion. I have had some horrible buyers who tell all sorts of lies. This buyer may have replaced the cream with some other cheap cream herself and be hoping that you will eventually tell her to send it back and give a refund, while she meanwhile enjoys the clarins in another container!!

At the end of the day, she should have checked the cream before leaving feedback and the fact that she left you a positive means that she was happy to close the deal with you.

I would ignore her and block her!!

Hi Angie, your post made me chuckle - as I wondered if this was her game - replacing the cream with something dodgy. But thought maybe that was going too far. Great minds think alike hey!!!:D

I have been reading this thread thinking the same thing. Besides even if she sent it back to you she has opened and stuck her finger in it, meaning its resale value has just dropped massively due to hygeine.

She sounds like a liar, I mean as if she just spent another 30 quid buying more cream, if thats the case why didnt she buy it there in the first place? I would stand my ground, you cannot do anything with it now its been used and you do run the risk of her swapping the contents. I would email stating the item was bought from Clarins at christmas and was unopened and still well within its shelf life date, that you have checked with Clarins and that particular product does not come in cello wrap and is also a perfumed product. You cannot be held liable for any reaction but as you are 100% sure the item is genuine Clarins after sales service is extremely good if she wishes to take the product to them to report the problem. Or if she simply doesnt like the product she could resell it on ebay.

She has already changed her mind from a burning reaction to its gone off with any luck she'll get bored soon and leave you alone. If you are polite but firm she should get the message and stop the petty emails.

If you could be bothered, you could say that you've taken advice from the Clarins counter where it was bought, and they suggest you get a formal written statement from your buyer quoting the Clarins rep she took the product to, as they take counterfeiting very seriously.

They can, of course, easily check whether one of their products has been tampered with, as even washing out the container leaves unmistakable traces.

And they were very surprised that someone who has worked for them should have forgotten that their products are not perfume-free, and not cellophane wrapped.

Or you delete her emails unread, and block her.

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

Have ignored her for 2 days - and no more emails - so hopefully she'll stay away....does put you off though doesn't it. I've got more stuff to list, but funnily enough I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm. LOL

  • The same thing happened to me last year. Someone accused me of selling them fake face cream (Philosophy I think). I detest fakes and really feel strongly that the laws of this country should be changed so that there should be instant fines for anyone handling fakes (importing/selling whatever). I was mad as hell when I was accused of selling a fake.

It turned out that my buyer had been doing a lot of ebay shopping and had simply confused me with another seller. She should have checked her facts before confronting me - but she didn't. When she saw how upset I was she dug a bit deeper and realised I had actually sold her a genuine product at a bargain price. She was most apologetic.

I don't sell face cream any more - it just wasn't worth the hassle for the meagre profits.

Regarding feedback - I've been selling on ebay since 2001 and I used to see negative feedback as being that - negative. Now I think that a seller who has a small amount of negs is actually a good thing - it demonstrates to me that the seller isn't prepared to take any c*r*a*p.

Yup. 85% positive rating means one thing. 98% positive means something entirely different.

Hi, I am currently having the same problem- sold a new, sealed edt buyer has now said they have opened it and it is "off" :(

    What are my rights?
Knowing that it is not off (new, sealed stored in a cool dark place so as to avoid spoilage), that the buyer could very easily swap it for a fake, and that it is now not in the condition as I sold it so cannot be re-sold as new and sealed. What can I do? :(

They will need to start a dispute, then prove it's 'off', then they'll have to return it to you via a trackable method.
Then you refund them once all that has been successful.

    I can't imagine it'll get that far...
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
