When I've grown sweet peas like this in the past I stuffed a couple of sheets of kitchen roll in the bottom of the tube to stop the compost coming out.

Good idea/bad idea? Has anyone tried it? I thought I'd try it out this year as one could in theory just plant the whole thing in the ground without disturbing the roots and it would then biograde and it would give the roots more room to grow downwards. The only thing I'm worried about is the whole thing disintegrating when it gets watered. Your thoughts please
. TIA.

Worked ok for me last year though germination was about 90% instead of 100%. Put inners in a seed tray to keep inners together. Got some mould on the cardboard but that seemed to do no harm.
