I once hired a Citroen C3 in Spain that had a top speed of 120 km/h. When I encountered a slope on the autoroute that reduced to under 100 km/h - any sort of overtaking, whether on a hill or not, was impossible which meant I got stuck behind the wagons that were limited to 55 mph.

Sounds good to me, don't see what the problem was.

    talksalot,

I'll answer when I get back online, but I will be calculationg your extra running costs & VED over the 5K miles compared to your small car over a period of say the next 3 - 5 years. See what it comes to.

Well I'm sure you wouldn't have seen it that way if you were there.

All this extra tax will not make people change their ways. Ultimately people will factor in the extra running costs for their cars (along with price rises on everything else) when negotiating their pay rises. I think ultimately this will prove to be an inflationary measure which will, in part, prevent the bank of England from lowering interest rates - it will cost us all extra in the end whether you drive a car or not.
  • Yes,, as above...
    Everything has gone up.
    Petrol, car tax, food, c/tax..
How can we all afford this extra?..
Its not like i can just earn an extra 150/200 per mth..
More tax on my car is ridiculous..
And as for my car.. I would never buy some tiny little pedal car ..
And luxurys that i should leave at home.. What exactly do i work for
every month.. not to have luxurys,, and those i have i should leave at home.
So what i just earn to pay the goverment now do i..
What exactly in life can we have?,,,Nothing anymore,, as everything is just too expensive to have

Sounds like it Dementedhousewife. It is about time you guys (and I say that because, in NI, we basically dont count) ellected a bunch of politicians whocan do the job without being converted into swindlers and cheats.
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.
  • I have 6mth old twins.. How the hell would i get them into a Civic..
Plus if a van or lorry would hit me.... we wouldnt have a chance in hell of surviving...
I think safety plays a big part on the car you drive..
Safety for my kids comes before enviroment.....

Erm, my parents managed with twins in a mini. Don't be brainwashed by the safety paranoia , the Honda Civic is a very safe car.

On parkers now there is a front end tax Car tax calculator, so you can put in your make model and see the current tax price and 2009/2010 increases - quite scary stuff!

    Please answer one question

    - do you believe that it would be a good thing to reduce CO2 omissions from road vehicles

If you answer no - you're obviously entitled to that opinion, but it's obviously pointless debating this issue. You're obviously going to dislike the car tax increase and will see no reason for it.

If yes - then we can discuss whether the car tax increases are going to achieve anything.

    I have a pre-2001 Rover diesel - currently paying £185.
If I replace it with something similar (say a Ford Focus) that will go down to £120. I find it difficult to imagine what sort of monster vehicle will pay £400! Even something hefty like a Mondeo estate is only £145.
