Have you even been in a Civic? I have and there's loads of room, not only that someone I know has one and coincidently has 6 month old twins!
Regarding the earlier reflection on the room in a Mondeo Vs a Civic, I think that's a fair point, I was trying to give a comparison with like for like, e.g zafira, C3 308 etc although I think a civic is more roomy than any of these. I shouldn't have said Mondeo, perhaps I was thinking that if they can make a Civic band 'B' they can make a car the size of a Mondeo fit into band 'C'.
Plus I don't think that "power/underpowered" should be the way we view cars anymore, as long as the car is capable of doing 60 - 70 mph I don't see it is a problem.

Yes, as per the previous post, what about safety?
Just reaching a top speed of 70mph isn't the whole story. You will need power if you are towing a caravan for example or if you have a fully loaded car and your are going up a steep incline.
I remember an incident as a child when I was in the car with my parents and we got stuck trying to get up a hill in the lake district because the car was underpowered. We then had to do a dangerous 3-point turn on a thin road with a cliff at the side - not good.0 -
The lowest VED for the new Civic is the diesel at 135g/km which is Band C and the petrol at 152g/km which is Band D, which will become E and G respectively.
Ah, sorry, I was wrong, it was the diesel I was thinking of, I could be pedantic and say there is a hybrid Civic which comes in at 109gm/km but that was not what I meant and I dunno if they still make them, but it does go to show they can be made.
Have you got a link to the proposed future bands?
Still the point is that a Honda Civic is directly comparable with those cars listed in the previous post (Zafira 308, C3) and I would say it was bigger and better than them too. The Civic with 135 gm/km is well below what those cars emit (as given in the post (170 - 180 gm/km) So the point I was making is, I believe still a valid point to make.
I do still think the higher charges is good it encourages people to look for economic cars, it encourages manufacturers to come up with new designs (hybrid Civic for example) to keep the customers happy. And most of all the pawltry increase is nothing when you look at the big picture of running costs, so is it really so bad? :rolleyes:0 -
I have been looking at the new Civic with a view to changing mine, while the hybrid is still produced and I have had a test drive in one who realistically is going to pay over £17000 for what is really a small vehicle and what will depreciation be compared to conventional cars.

Toyota Corolla 128gm/km
Citroen C4 120 gm/km !!!!
Pug 308 120 gm/km !!!!
Toyota Auris 131 gm/km
Kia Ceed 135 g/km0 -

Like towing a caravan is anything to be encouraged
I don't think any modern car would struggle to go up a steep incline whilst loaded within its limits.0 -
