I doubt it. If Tesco are losing money on this I'll eat my hat.
They are almost certainly getting them from Powergen (e.on energy), possibly subsidised by the government or perhaps as part of a deal to supply Tesco's energy requirements nationwide.0 -

Has anyone seen a 200 watt energy saving lightbulb anywhere?
................
If I needed 200W I'd use 2 x 100W (cost 2p)
I could easily make an adapter to fit 2 bulbs into 1 socket for little more than £1 - in fact I think I've seen the genuine article for sale in France or Spain
EDIT UPDATE - Just remembered something from way back and spoke to my dad. He actually has a 2 way Bayonet Cap lamp adapter - had it over 50 years (might even be made out of Bakelite - I known it's dark brown) - Just what you need !

Most of the standard ranges stop at 23w which is equiv to about 125w.
Do a search for "30w liliput", these are available in BC & ES. The literature says equiv to 150w but it's probably higher than any others you've found.
Alternatively you can save a bit of energy and get a much longer life by changing to 160w MLL mercury bulb. These are designed to replace 200w GLS bulbs in industrial applications, I'm not sure about the 'warm up' time or how the colour of the light compares. A bit more expensive but ridiculously long life at 20,000 hours.0 -

The reason CFL lights are not recommended for use in enclosed fittings is because of heat.
Now I know someone is going to say that CFL bulbs are much cooler than standard tungsten filament bulbs, and that is very true in open sockets where air-convection directly carries heat away from the surface of the light. The problem is that in enclosed fittings, there is next to no convection cooling of the bulb. That causes the heat to build up until it can be efficiently conducted or radiated directly from the bulb, and that will result in a much higher temperature than normal being reached by a CFL bulb (tungsten bulbs radiate most the heat anyway because of the very high temperature of the filament).
Tungsten filament bulbs are designed to tolerate quite high temperatures (high temperatures are a given when there is a wire of tungsten inside the bulb with a temperature of 2000-3000C, and the glass surface around it reaching typically 200C). Most CFL bulbs have electronic circuitry (the ballast) inside which will fail or have a much reduced life at the temperatures reached in enclosed fittings. There are special CFL bulbs available which can be used in enclosed fittings as they are designed to be able to tolerate high temperatures, but standard CFL bulbs are not suitable. The 6-year ones on offer for 1p might be lucky to last six months if used in a socket with no ventilation.0 -

Sorry Tesco, but this may cost you loads.
A tip that I picked up from 'Martins Money saving tips', is that Tesco, (and most other supermarkets), will give you a voucher to obtain 'special offers' later, if they run out of stock before the offer ends. Present the voucher when the offered goods are back in stock, and you will only have to pay the 'special offer' price
Happy hunting,
Leo.
Tesco have covered this - The SELs state "Reduced To Clear" on them and all the instore and national media advertising states "While Stocks Last".
We could indeed issue you with a special offer price promise voucher for a 6 year Energy lightbulb but seeing as we will not be selling them anymore after this stock has gone it will be pretty worthless to you.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

The offer has been funded - Tesco announced this in the press release regarding the promotion. The price will also not be increasing from 1p - They will stay at this price until entire company stock has been depleted.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

Changed the bulbs in my house for my spinky new 1p ones last night, but noticed on the box that you can't use them with dimmer switches.
May just be on the type that I purchased, but you may want to check yours if you haven't already....!Your = belongs to you
You're = you are0 -
Manage to get 4 'value' ones and 4 screw ones. Apparently we can't use the screw ones! Doh!! lol, only wasted 4p, I can't cry over it.
Was plenty left in Tesco Thornton Heath."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
