Tax Credit's I can't get through the security questions

To be honest I dont think the tco can win either way - if they dont ask enough security questions its their fault if someone fraudulently claims using your ID. If they ask too many and you fail them they get called for asking to many questions. Anyway, Fran asked what to do if you fail the questions & for an address. You can put any info you want to give them or any questions you want to ask in a letter and send it to TCO, Preston PR1 0SD. There is no e-mail address (and thats for fraud prevention before anyone questions why).0

Conor - HMRC is not one dept. TCO dont deal with Child Benefit or stopping people smuggling drugs (customs).
Even if I was working for CBO this was not down to me, this wasnt even the fault of the person who sent the discs but the senior management who were not making sure that proper protocols were being followed. (I will not discuss this particular issue further as this is not the "official view" and discussions should be on the relevant board)
crazy angel - you should not be asked for the exact date. Do you not keep bank statements as this would show when your payments started going in to the account. TCO cannot advise you to note the date you applied for Tax Credits as it will be a security question because the security is constantly evolving to try to beat organised fraud and hijacking of claims. Also, this was a recently introduced question (along with others) due to the chld Benefit fiasco.
Has you claim ever been terminated and you have had to re-apply? Have you ever split up/got together with a partner and had to re-apply? They are looking for the year you re-applied if this is the case.
Lip stick - It should be "what year did you apply for your current claim?" anyway
Fran - it doesnt show your middle name on your award notice, again, due to security.
I will re-iterate what I have said in a previous post - YOU WILL NOT FAIL SECURITY ON JUST ONE QUESTION.
The reason why most people think they have failed on this one question is because this is usually the last question that can be asked within our strict guidlines before advising the caller they have failed security. The caller will hang on to this one last question and be convinced that they have given everything else correct.
Please also note if you say "I dont know" to a question it counts as a fail.
You should know your PAYE if you have an employer or UTR if self employed when calling up TCO helpline as it may be required.
And just to add, the advisers dislike all the confusion over security as much as the callers as we are the ones getting vile abuse and screaming on the phones. We do not make the rules - just follow them! There are teams working on security procedures to try to improve them - hopefully we can get something better soon.0 -

As far as I was concerned I only omitted a middle name when phoning. Perhaps I said "I don't know" then. How utterly ridiculous!!!!:mad:Torgwen.....................

I've had to call the TCO quite a few times in the last few weeks, most recently on Monday this week and I haven't been asked this question and thank goodness because I wouldn't have a clue
I would assume 2003, if this is when TCs started because I have claimed since they started (I think).
Have got to call them again in another few weeks, really hope they don't ask this one.
How frustrating for all concerned. You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

Sorry, is that directed to me?
Yes, they always ask my employer's name and husband's DOB. Sorry, what is PAYE? My employee number? No, they haven't asked me that. Trying to remember what else they ask....... DOB, full address and full name with middle names.... then employment status, employer's name and H's DOB. Oh, and sometimes they ask for one of my children's DOB too.

Yeah, sorry I should have quoted your post. Your PAYE (Pay As You Earn reference number) is your employer's tax office reference number. Sometimes the name of your employer and the name they are registered with tax office are different so they would need to ask for the PAYE.
For examle, ASDA are very often shown on Tax Records as CERIDIAN and Tesco are shown as JULIE.
The PAYE is still going to be the same so that is why they ask this to make sure.0 -
