Tax Credit's I can't get through the security questions

I have just found out that my 17 year old son who is on connexions training and getting the Education Maintenace Allowance and that I should be claiming Tax Credits for him but one of the security questions with tax credits "what was the date that I first claimed tax credits"?I have no idea and have guessed sevaral dates and then they will not answer any further question's I have as I have not passed the security check. How can I get through to them and get what I am entitled too?
They won't even send me out a new claim pack because I already claim it for my younger son and I don't need one.
It is so frustrating to the point where i just wnat to cry.

They're bloody idiots. I had this for about a week with them because apparently I was telling them the wrong name even though I've had it for 37 years and it's the same as on the credits award. In the end I got the missus to phone up and she spoke to the woman on the other end about it, giving the same details I had and the woman couldn't understand why I'd had a problem.

Register for and do it online. That way you can change it without having to talk to the morons.

The advisers have to follow strict guidance so I would be grateful if you could avoid calling us/them morons.

If you are failing on that question you have obviously got another one wrong. If you are employed, did you ive the your PAYE number when they asked for it.

If you are not sure of the year you can guess, if you get it wrong you can call back again and guess a different year.

Tax Credits the way they are now have been in place since 2003 so if you have "always claimed since they started" then the answer you should give is 2003.

I am not trying to assist anyone in passing security fraudulently here but it is possible to find out the year it started then call back.
  • And for the information of those getting really !!!!!y about being unable to pass security with the new questions, this is not the fault of TCO. This is due to the child benefit discs going missing. We need to ask questions that have nothing to do with the information held on the discs.

So if you could please not get abusive towards the advisers, they are protecting your details to the best of their ability and the if the guidance we have to follow is not adhered to they could be disciplined and ultimately sacked.
  • And you cannot ddeal with tax credits online anymore, this portal was closed down "until further notice" a long time ago due to possible security breaches.

I have actually be calling daily for months and I just can't afford the 0845 numbers any more, all the other questions i pass but it's just this one,and i get asked the actual date i filled in my application??I mean come on now is that not a ridiculous question.
    So I give up.

When you're telling them the correct details and even getting out the award notice and reading it letter for letter as they are requesting and they're still failing it EVEN THOUGH ITS EXACTLY THE SAME INFORMATION THATS ON THE SYSTEM and then your wife rings up, mentions the problem, confirms your details and the person she is speaking to can't understand why you've failed and the following week when you ring and give the same details you did the week before which is now accepted but last week wasn't then yes, they are morons.

No I agree the staff aren't morons-but whoever set up this new system IS.
The staff however do have a responsibility to be pointing out how many calls they daily have to refuse because of this issue.
If I was in this situation (and no doubt I soon will be as son is 16 and I'll need to advise them he's staying on) I'd be advising my MP of the situation-and getting him or her to investigate. MP enquiries are treated differently to the general public's complaints-ie faster and the staff are more accountable for these.
It's a farce-to make an un-usable security sytem -because of a security breach thatoccured due to the actions of a government servant. The lunatics appear to be running the madhouse.

Shame your department didn't think of that when posting the CDs then millions of us wouldn't have to bang our heads against the wall failing to answer a question that most people couldn't reasonably be expected to answer.

I doubt you could remember the exact date you filled in a form 5 years ago.

My department didnt post the CDs. I work for TCO not CBO. They do not want the exact date you applied. Just the year. There are only 5 different years to chosse from.
Advisers ARE pointing out how many calls are being failed and are trying to work with the "higher powers that be" to try to make something more workable.
Security procedures are supposed to be getting changed in April to try to improve the problems we are having right now - the security changes were made quickly after the CBO discs fiasco and the problems are currently being worked through.
You are allowed to fail one question so it is not just the year you applied question you are failing on!
