Could you tell me what 'Penny Mobile 2' is, also an 'Orchid'.
(Primus's) Penny Mobile 2 is a CPS (Carrier PreSelect) calls provider which, apart from giving subscribers (it's a free service so I'm not sure the word 'subscribers' actually applies) free evening and weekend calls of up to 90 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers, also allows them to call any UK mobile for a flat rate of 20p for up to 20 minutes. I use it all the time and, in particular, when I divert my incoming BT landline calls to my mobile. Primus don't appear to feature it on their website but I have a pdf they sent me a while ago giving details. PM me an email address and I'll send it to you.

An Orchid is a dialler which is user-programmable to automatically route calls via up to 8 different calls providers. See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=518161
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Ah thanks. Sorry I didn't originally follow your link as I hadn't appreciated that saynoto0870 had a forum!

Thanks, I think I'd already discovered that one as it was linked from the original thread.

I am interested in getting this service. Am I right in assuming that 18185 stills works fine for calls to landlines and that the problems highlighted above occur when calling mobiles.

I use the sister companies 1899and 18866 for weekday daytime 01/02/03 calls and have not had any problems with either.

I have used 18185 and the sister companies 18866 and 1899 for 4 years and most of the time it works fine with just the occasional glitch for calls to landlines and mobiles. The massive savings adequately compensates for this IMO.

Len Martin at OCCtelecoms@ofcom.org.uk says that Ofcom 'will' take up with Finarea their failure to belong to an Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme (such as Otelo).

Sorry for the late reply on this but Len Martin is almost certainly trying to fob you off as David Stewart, Ofcom's then Director of Investigations, told me in 2005 that he would keep the matter of Finarea's non membership of an ADR under review but then did absolutely nothing.

I also had further correspondence with Ofcom earlier in this year in which they ended up maintaining that overseas telecoms suppliers who supply telecoms services in the UK via an indirect access code like Finarea were not their regulatory responsibility and that thus either Finarea do not need to belong to an ADR or alternatively Ofcom are saying it is not their responsibility to do anything about Finarea's non membership of such a scheme as the firm does not have a registered office in the UK.

And yes I also go by the name of NGMsGhost over in the https://www.saynoto0870.com discussion forum.
