18185 cannot ring mobiles

I've just had the hold on style message, with a foreign voice. There is definitely some scam being pulled here, presumably by 18185 as it happened to me twice in the last ten minutes and both calls have been charged on my itemised list.
I'm not sure a dodgy outfit like this should be the recommendation on this site.0 -
Hmmm, I had the "you don't have enough credit" (or something like that) message again yesterday - very strange.Stompa0

I called a mobile yesterday using 18185. It connected then there was a 'ringing tone'. I'm fairly convinced it was a recorded ringing tone - designed to keep you hanging on I guess. Phoned immediately after with BT and got immediately connected.
I think that's it with 18185 for me. If they can't keep their business in order - and they MUST be aware of this problem - then they can't keep my business.
EDIT - I've just checked my account - they charged me for the pleasure of listening to a fake ringing tone!0 -
well, I'm glad it's not just me. I've had the silence and the lack of ring tone over and over. It's a shame because I've been using 18185 for a while and it's only just started happening - perhaps they can't cope with the demand?
I also had to resort to BT - straight through - expensive but I suppose you get there.
One thing to watch out for which is quite simple is that we are one of the only countries to use a double ring tone - so if it's a single ring - either the mobile of the person you are phoning is abroad or it's been badly routed - and you can hang up before someone answers.
One more thing - we are religious in using 18185 or 1899 every time we ring. However, there are always a few calls that slip through the net and go via BT. One was to Australia - which was a massive shock when I got the bill!
Has this happened to anyone else?
all in all, I've stopped using 18185 for foreign calls - too risky and am going off it for mobile calls - though not sure what the next best would be.0 -
After experiencing many of the same problems as other members,i have also stopped using 18185 to call mobiles.0

Have you considered an Orchid to prevent those 'forgot the code' problems?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
The MSE UK Callchecker will help you with alternatives for calling UK mobiles.
According to a poster in this thread all services provided by Finarea are experienceing problems. 1899/18866/18185 and 0871 dial throughs.
