why not just use 1899, it is 3p per min to mobiles at weekends, 10p rest of the time....

I won't be too surprised if that is exactly the same as they are both operated by the same company and thus probably use the same carriers.

So can 18185 ,i am using it regularly in the South West and i am not experiencing any misrouting problems, and its cheaper then 1899 to use during weekdays.
  • I don't know if anyone using Call18185 has experienced this but it seems a bit iffy to me.

I've been ringing round lots of builder types recently and using 18185 @ 6p/min. On a small but significant number of calls, I get to hear the same conversation: a guy who says hello and then tells me to wait. You can then hear him shouting in the background "There's a call for you" or words to that effect. Then you wait and wait - and the guy you want to speak with doesn't come to the phone.

The really strange thing is that I'm hearing EXACTLY the same thing when I phone different people. After a while, I twigged: it IS the same "conversation", so it must be a recording. In other words, it seems that I'm not actually getting through to the number I dial but to a recording that gives the impression you've got through. Then you wait, while the call charges continue to clock up.

Anyone have any experience of this? It only happens on a percentage of calls, so it's hard to reproduce - which might be deliberate, of course.

  • Yes I have had a very similar incident, but with 18866! Sounds like they are trying to connect you and the person is upstairs. Then the guy says, there is somebody on the phone for you.
It didn't really register with me because I put down the phone because I knew the person I wanted to talk to lives alone!
I have used 18866 for years, but recently the connection, line quality etc has been terrible. In fact I'm going to move off now. It has got so bad - mobiles are the worse.

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience to me with 18185, I dial a number, it seems to always be a mobile one, a English speaking foreign voice answers, says Hello........a few seconds pass, says Yes........a few seconds pass, says Hold On.......and then you wait, you hear a TV in the background and you wait........and wait..............at whatever the pence per minute charge is. This has happened to me 6 or 7 times now, I have started to say nothing when the voice answers the phone and the same "Hello Yes Hold On" is said.
The first couple of times it happened I presumed I had dialed the wrong number, then as my suspicions grew I started to press the redial button on my phone. When I press the redial button I always connect to the number I origionally wanted.
I am not saying that 18185 are doing anything underhand but something does seem suspicious, has any other 18185 users had a similar problem?
    Many Thanks

    Welcome to MSE werlynne,

Someone else posted the same thing the other day.

I have had it, was OK the last time I tried but I am sure it has happened a few times now.

Not the message just not connecting.

This keeps happening to me when I call 18185 and then a mobile number, no matter who you ask for then you get the "hold on" a tv in the background and sometimes a dog barking - VERY STRANGE !!! Sometimes it sounds like an American programme - something like CNN News. Someone is obviously making some money out of it.

If you are able to listen in to CNN you might be able to save some money - no need to pay a sky subscription if you can pick up the CNN news for the cost of a 18185 call.

Wonder if anyone else will come forward?
