• Has anyone got to the bottom of what is going on with the Foreign guy , dog barking 'holding on 'scam yet.
Can't see anything on the 18185 website. Have had this quite a few times now.
If this is happening a lot we need to make this more high profile.

I'd also like to know about this, as I've rung Mobile numbers myself and been held on the line while 'someone' calls upstairs.
When I've spoken to the person I've rung, they've told me they did not get a call from me on that occasion...

This really does need addressing.

I've never had any problems with 18185 until this weekend. I was trying to dial a mobile number (which I know is valid), but ended up with a message saying "You have dialled an incorrect number".

service@finarea.ch have emailed me that they will refund on my next invoice the charges for 3 calls that were routed to the dogs. Finarea have not commented on my suggestion that they investigate whether one of their suppliers is misrouting calls deliberately.

Len Martin at OCCtelecoms@ofcom.org.uk says that Ofcom 'will' take up with Finarea their failure to belong to an Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme (such as Otelo).

I can't currently dial my mobile (T-Mob) through 18185 from home. I get an international tone ringing out for a few rings and then the line goes dead.

One time in about 10 attempts it did work and the number showed up as +0044...

I've had this problem I think as far back as about January, I posted about it on here but I don't think anybody replied at the time. It must have happened to me at least 30-50 times now. I use 18185 to phone my customers, many of them are tradespeople and therefore not at home in the day. I'm getting to know the ring tone is slightly different to the normal one and if I spot it I hang up. Some days it's been so bad I've resorted to using BT.

18185 appears to be playing sillyb*ggers again today. I've had 'you don't have enough credit to connect this call' and a couple of times it's dialled with a US style long ringtone.

Anybody else able to use it properly? I'm at the point of giving up completely now.

Just tried calling my own T-mobile via 18185. (a) When switched off: (1) 6 pee per minute, continental ringing tone for about 10 bursts, silence. (2) 6 pee per minute, silence. (3) 6 pee per minute, silence, then whooshing noise. (b) When switched on, rang correctly. I didn't answer. Missed call shown as number unavailable. (Previously, 18185 has passed correct CLI.)
None of these show as 'to be invoiced' (as, of course, they shouldn't).

• Morning,

I appreciate this is unlikely but was just wondered if Finarea (or any other International Service Provider) ever came back with an explanation for the “Barking Dog” calls? As I understand it Finarea, based in Switzerland are the company who manage the 18185 service, which you used when first encountering this annoying miss routing scenario.

I have also experienced this problem when calling from the US, both direct from the office or using my mobile (without using the 18185 service). This happened when I’ve attempted to call a number of UK friends & colleagues, connected with a range of different service providers including; Vodafone, Orange and even a BT Landline.

With this in mind I expect the calls are being miss-routed at some point by an International Carrier used by the company where the calls are originating from (in my case Verizon). However I believe a number of international carriers could be used in these types of calls, but hoping Verizon, using my call records will be able to assist and investigate this for me with the aim of identifying at what point and WHERE my calls are being routed to!

Unfortunately as the calls are being miss-routed before hitting the UK Service Providers such as Vodafone, Orange and BT, They are unable to assist as no records are ever generated on there UK network which is fair enough!

So my question is has anyone else already logged a complaint with the originating service provider like NGMs Ghost did with Finarea and have they received a positive response indicating an investigation of some sort is being conducted to bring the scam to an end?
