Call me cynical, but in these days I want something completely my own and not with someone else. It may take longer but I would be devastated from all the effort and then having to giving my ex half a house.

what if your partner put up an equal amount? or you could draw up an agreement that what %age you put in will be the %age of the proceeds of sale.
i guess its easier to do it alone...

I am beginning to feel that way too. Given that it's going to be years until I have enough (I will be buying on my own), coupled with the fact that I'm getting b*gger all interest on my savings, really does make me think twice about saving... maybe that's what the government want though

I am in the same boat as you, buying on my own after recently being dumped.

But dont worry, even if it takes you a few years to save. Just think of the joy of having your own place that you have worked hard to save up for and it is 100% yours :)

Like both of you I am going to be buying on my own.
I know its going to be at least 3 years before I can even think about it and in that time I intend to save as much as possible. £25K is the target I've set myself.
    Good luck with your savings

Its a great feeling to know there are people out there in a similar situation to me :)

Can i ask how old you are both and what your current living situation is. I am 22 and live with my parents and i get no end of stick from my coworkers about it. But they all rent, which i think is a waste of money whilst im saving for a deposit.

I will also be buying my house on my own.

I am 28 and also live with parents so i plan to move out next year some time. I don't get any stick probably because i keep rambling on to my co-workers about saving for a deposit and getting a place of my own.

I don't think renting at this moment in time is wasting money as its a roof over your head until the prices drop, i know what you mean though as your parent's house is likely to be the cheaper option.

I have 22k saved, my target is 30k but early next year if i see a place i like i will probably be very interested even though i won't have fully reached my target.

    Good luck to all.

I'm 30 (nearly 31  ) Living at home with my parents - Just finished paying a Trust Deed here in Scotland another 3 years til my credit file is "fixed" so to speak. So quite happy staying where I am until then. Quite a few of my co-workers are still at home as well.

    Anybody is welcome here!

Thats a good amount saved. Try not compare yourself with other people who have saved more. £12,000 is alot more than the majority of people have in this country right now!
