So my OH has finally totalled up his saving and he has £10,440.43 giving us a joint total of £19484.23. Can't wait to get that over £20k on payday!

So happy that I have managed to break through the £17k barrier! :j I'm 3-4 months behind because of Christmas, a broken car and lost fees from a seller pulling out but I am so happy to have reached another mini target at last. Well Done CocoD! That is awesome. I am also trying to save for a deposit atm. Not doing brilliantly but chipping away slowly. I have about £700 saved...slowly, slowly and all that. I used to have £3k plus but that's all gone due to past events:eek:
Now I'm on a new chapter...I love hearing everyone's positive work though, makes it seem possible.Married in 2016. Bought our first home in 2017. Expecting our first baby in November 2017

Hello all. I'm new to these forums - they are exactly what I need right now.
My husband and I are frantically saving a deposit for a piece of land that we REALLY want - the land is due for release in July. We have very scant savings and are going to need around $30,000 (Australian dollars) to be approved for the loan. Challenge is ON. Guess I need people to help me stay accountable...
So far I have:
$2000 (high interest savings acct #1)
$732 (high interest savings acct #2)
And a really high interest credit card I need to pay off asap. We are both on a reasonable salary and are in the fortunate position of not having to pay rent or a mortgage.

Sounds like everyone is doing very well around here. It's been a while since I even looked on this thread. Just had a wee look through and seems there's a lot of people doing well.
The OH and I have now opened a Nationwide STB account to replace our RBS Homesaver since the rate is about 2% better. We're sitting at about £7k at the moment I think and there's a terramundi full of £2 coins waiting to be smashed (around £800-1000 hopefully).
We keep torturing ourselves by looking online at houses for sale even though we've decided it's likely to be early 2016 before we properly look to buy.
Anyone else in the same boat as us where one (me) thinks a good new build is the way forward given we can choose the details before they go in (doors, worktops, flooring) and the other thinks an existing property where we can extend, knock through walls to reconfigure, convert attics is the way to go?0 -
I think new build is the way to go - we have continually done things to our property to make it last but we then always end up in the same situation, where we have outgrown where are currently living. Temporary solutions that have cost us $$ when we should have just knocked the house down and started again from scratch.
We got official confirmation from a bank manager today that to secure the loan, we would need $30,000 by June 1st. Here's to 2 minute noodles for the next 4 months0 -

I've been saving properly since mid-2012, and I actually found and bookmarked this thread at that time but never got around to posting. It seems like a great place to discuss something which isn't always easy to talk about with people you know personally (i.e. money in the bank).
This is my first post on these forums, so a quick background to my situation:
I live with my parents and give them only a token rent, so am able to save a greater portion of my income than if I rented. I'm in my late 20s and would like to move out and have my own home before I hit 30.
I have so far managed to save just over £25k. I aim to reach £30k by the end of 2015, and around £37k by the end of 2016. During 2017 I will continue to save and I hope to be looking at putting down a deposit of around £33-34K on a house. I originally thought mid-2016 would be possible, but I've had to change my plans to be more realistic.
I've been spending more in recent months, but now Christmas is long gone it's time to reel that back in again.
For a long time I planned to buy a new car in 2015, but I now realise this is more of a "want" than a "need" so have decided to stick with my current perfectly good (albeit unexciting) car.
Now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I should hopefully be more focused on reaching my goal. Even though it's at least 2 years away, it's starting to seem more real than ever.
There are a lot of motivational posts on this thread, and I hope that one day I'll have my own success story to share.

My partner and I live in a little one bed shared ownership flat, mortgaged just in my name, as my partner had bad credit when we bought.
We're all sorted for the credit issues now, so going to be saving hard for a deposit for our own (hopefully 2 bed) place!
I've been looking at the Nationwide Save to buy account - is this what a lot of people use? It's so hard deciding where to put your hard-earned cash! Even ISAs have such poor rates

We're currently standing at £5984.86 with a bit more to be put in later this month so should make it past 6k. At the moment I'm using the tsb current accounts that pay 5% but not sure where to go next. You do have to be organised about money transfers with the current accounts.
